Yeah agreed, Foster would be a handful for anyone with his height, jab, punching power, skills and reach

Oh yeah I remember...you educated all those folks who only knew him because of the Tyson fight.

What kind of gameplan does futch come up with here? If anyone can solve Foster, it’s futch. And Spinks has the intelligence to follow it...like when he abandoned the right hand agains qawi to fight a safe first jab and move style while forcing qawi out of his element. He also hired Mackie Shilstone to put Him on a specific diet and regimen for Holmes. Spinks went from 175 to 201 and lost body fat %...Spinks was a gym rat, he loved the gym and loved the hard work that went into boxing

In late 1963, Foster's "kind management" threw Bob in with a top lightheavy Mauro Mina (45-2-2), in Mina's home country of Peru, with Bob having only 12 pro fights....in a fight slightly over the Ltheavy limit.
Foster lost in 10 rounds by UD.

Isn't that the million dollar question. What we should remember is that Futch also trained Foster at one point.

What do you do tho against a guy with big height and reach who has an ATG jab, can box at range and has pinnacle level power both at range and from pretty close. The guy also slips and parries well and can counterpunch.

Spinks can't overly sit back as Foster's jab would surely dictate. The guy has good stamina and paces himself well.

Spinks has got to find a way to impose some of his own immense power imo. Some well timed blitz attacks might be good. Slip a jab then attack hard with combinations. Spinks natural herky jerky style would lessen the predictability of these assaults. He can't let Foster dictate all night. Looking too hard and often for the right hand counter over Foster's jab would be fraught with danger.

Foster is such a monster to fight isn't he. What a Superfight.

Good call, these two are the top echelon of all time great light heavyweights, I'd favor Bob by decision for the reasons you give, if Spinks comes at him he gets Ko'ed

If any LHW fight ever could happen this would be the one I'd want to see, in large part because I have no idea at all who I'd pick to win it.

I like this matchup...Foster has the size and tools to shrink the ring down on Spinks but as we found out Spinks master outside movement like few at that weight.....No KO in this fight though the power goes to Foster damn his punches had some thud to them the 175lb Sandy Sadler the overall boxing I like Spinks with his high hands and discipline and tireless legs to outbox Bob.

IMO Foster is #1 all time and Spinks #2 but in a head to head matchup I have Spinks by Dec...Spinks had the better durability when he moved up in weight and excellent ring intelligence at 175. Spinks is only beaten by Foster historically due to longevity but I will argue Spinks beat a better class of LtHeavyweights in the toughest era for the division.

I agree. I think he was the best light-heavyweight I ever saw. Foster himself told me that Spinks sucked and he would have done him in a few rounds. I did not have the heart to tell him I disagreed. I would take Spinks.
