On paper that looks fantastic. But when we factor in that Cooney was a retired fighter who barely trained and that Holmes was 36 years old, not a huge puncher and arguably beat him it takes some of the flare off of it. And Tua was a lot closer to the type of fighter that Mike Tyson was than those guys were
I think Spinks would befuddle and outbox Tua to win a pretty clear decision a mobile tricky boxer like Spinks is a bad match up for a plodding slugger like Tua. But Tua is dangerous at any point in the fight in regards to being able to KO an opponent early or late. Spinks was out on his feet vs a past it Holmes so if Tua does catch Spinks it could be curtains. So all in all I'd favour Spinks but I wouldn't bet money on it because if Tua catches Spinks I think he'd finish him off.
Tua was not 5' 8" , that's absurb. People just make nonsense up. I saw him twice in person, once at length at a NY Press event and stood next to him and he was clearly over 5' 10" ... no giant but the near Qwai height is bananas ,..
And when you watch a lot of his fights against men who are anywhere from 6’1 to 6’5” they don’t exactiy tower over him either
Tua wasn't still @ his best for Byrd either, he lost a bunch of weight for that fight & lost his punch along w/ it.
Oquendo & McCline were both Ring ranked in the years Byrd beat them, although admittedly I thought Oquendo was a robbery.
I think they made the annual because they almost beat Byrd. I don’t know that they were top ten heading into the fights.
