Is this an underrated victory for Michael Spinks, or was it just a case of Cooney no longer having the ambition he had before the Holmes defeat? I tend to think that although he was relatively inactive, Cooney was probably fancied by quite a lot of people standing at 6'6 and having knocked out the vast majority of his opponents. Michael Spinks was virtually seen as a blown-up Light Heavyweight and was vastly undersized next to the giant Gerry Cooney. The controversy surrounding the Holmes return bout couldn't have left the public feeling to confident about Spink's Heavyweight credentials either. For Michael to have stopped Cooney like he did...does this win do anything for Spinks career at all? For all of those who were actually around at the time, what was the general feeling going into the fight? Was Cooney expected to win based mainly on his superior size? Discuss.
