Thoughts? Arguably the best ever at LHW vs the best CW ever. Spinks won a HW title (even if it was against a faded Holmes) but never fought at CW.

I pick Spinks to use his awkward herky-jerky style and effective, steady jab to win a close decision.

Holyfield. Spinks was unorthodox and effective with his jab and power, but Holyfield at his best was superb as well, and I think his versatility, and inside edge would give him the bout in a close Decision.

"Marciano could not hold my jock strap". This statement is what beat Holmes. He was not faded at all when Spinks fought him. He was going to get past Marciano's record of 45 and that can't happen.

Oh, I would have to go with a draw...they were both great at their divisions.

Marciano's record was 49-0, the comment was made after Spinks beat Holmes, and yes, Holmes was showing signs of decline at 36, having arguably lost a couple of fights in the previous 2 years to the rather inexperienced Witherspoon and Williams.

    If they fought 10 times....5 wins a piece :).

Cant pick it. One was a technical master with great physical assets the other was a physical beast with great technical ability.

I think towards the end of Spinks' LHW reign his knee was giving him trouble a lot more and you could even see it in his heavy fights. Especially against Cooney.

Over 15 its hard to see Spinks lasting but he would have surely built a sizable lead. These kind of matchups its hard just to boil it down to one fight because it depends who wanted it more on the night aswell.

I will agree here, these would have been epic fights. Holyfield wins the trilogy based on size. Spinks wins the first by decision, Holy the 2nd by UD, and 3rd by 14th round TKO.

I have never even thought about this fight. I would have loved to have seen it in 88 before Tyson got to Spinks. Was there any talk about this fight?
