Personally I think this would be a pretty easy win for Michale. I can see him getting either a UD or a late stoppage. But what do you guys think?
Michael more skilful. Leon bigger, more firepower. Back in the day people said Leon would have taken it. I'm not so sure.
I would favor Michael. I know the more accomplished boxer may well not win head to head. Leon was naturally bigger, Michael taller, but I think the weight Michael put on to fight at HW would close the gap enough that given his skill, he could beat his brother. Since Leon through a lot of punches it would not be easy.
Michael ought to win this one - too skilful for Leon. Leon has one chance though - outworking Michael and roughing him up.
Ah sibling scraps, I remember them well. I can see Leon throwing lots of punches and charging round after little bro, telling him to stand still and take his beating like a man. Seriously though, Michael was the better boxer and I believe his class would show in a points victory
Being from St Louis I have heard all kinds of stories about the two of them. Kenny Loehr was a long time trainer from St Louis that worked with everyone including most of the top fighters from the US amateur program which was incredibly strong back in the 70's and 80's unlike today. Kenny swore that Leon had the most talent of all the guys he worked with and would be heavyweight champ some day but he also knew while Leon had the heart in the ring, he didn't have the discipline outside of it. Michael didn't really even like boxing. He just followed his brother into the sport. Supposedly when they sparred, Leon would not hold back unlike Michael who was not real comfortable hitting his brother. I remember reading an interview sometime ago where Michael talks about it. Bottom line, like the Klitschko's, the Spinks brother's would never fight each other in the ring. They were always with each other at their biggest fights and very close especially when they were younger. If you are asking me who was better, Michael was clearly the more accomplished and consistent but Leon never did reach his full potential inside the ring because of his excesses outside of it.
