Marvin Hagler always fought smaller greats like Duran/Hearns/Leonard. Spinks always challenged Marvin to move up like the guys he fought did for him. Marvin never did. What if Marvin would have decided to move up in weight and take on Spinks or Qawi? What would the result be?
Marvin is a great, great fighter, the best ever middleweight. Unfortunately, if we're talking primes, Spinks embarasses him and POSSIBLY kayoes him, and Qawi beats his ass and possibly kayoes him.
Spinks, definitely. Hagler was smart to stay at middleweight. I don't like his chances at light-heavyweight, especially considering how strong 175 was in the late 70s/early 80s.
The road ended at 160lbs for marvin. If he moved up, he would have gotten embarrased by a prime Spinks. And believe me, it would have been nasty.
Yup, Spinks would have been a bit too much for Hagler. Hagler didn't have the frame to move up to 175 and challenge the top guys.
Marvin was a small middleweight. Spinks was a natural LHW who once lifted a 175 pound opponent a good 4" off the canvass with an uppercut. Food for thought.
Spinks is possibly the best LH of all time. He was also bigger and a better boxer than Hagler. I Michael beats Hager easily.
