Michael Spinks vs Michael Dokes

Overachiever vs an Underachiever, I take Spinks all day every day.

 

Interesting take on Spinks being an overachiever. I always thought him hugely talented who achieved accordingly. At light heavyweight he had virtually everything you could want - durability, power, defense, size, great jab, the whole package really in a slightly awkward unorthodox framework which only made him harder to beat. Brilliant tactician too with Futch in his corner but the truth if he didn't overly rely on him either as he was absent for the Holmes fights. I guess we could say he upset the odds beating Holmes but a few things come together in that.

Spinks stops Dokes late as he tires.

Dokes was all fast twitch, meaning he would slow down. He was explosive and was a good finisher, but I see Spinks being skilled enough to see out the early onslaught, and begin to land more on Dokes as the fight goes on and eventually become too much for Dokes.
