IMO Bonavena was limited, I see no reason why Spinks doesn’t win if he sticks to his boxing, uses his superior skills on the outside and doesn’t engage, and he eventually tags him with the jinx and stops Bonavena on his feet late on, the reason I pick Spinks by stoppage is because he would go for the finish when he had guys hurt and also had devastating power at Heavyweight, the right he dropped Tangstad with was glancing and it had him all over the place. Who wins this matchup?
Tough-tough fight. I like Spinks to win a decision and voted likewise on the poll, but Oscar would be coming after him all night
Ali was the only man to stop Oscar and that was in the 15th round of a tough, sometimes grueling fight. I think Spinks should win the decision but not likely to stop Oscar.
I like Bonavena in this one by decision. Spinks faced NO ONE at heavyweight that fought with the physicality and aggression of Bonavena .So it's hard to get a real feel how he would do against such a fighter. My biggest issue with Spinks is his lack of mobility at heavy. He had serious knee problems , Something that would definitely be an issue against prime Bonavena because he wouldn't be able to get the room to work. In a sloppy, ugly fight, I can see Bonavena's bullying tactics frustrating Spinks, making him more defensive oriented, getting him a very close/split decision because of his aggression . I'll lean to an upset in this one.
I'd go with Spinks by close decision in a very tough fight--Bonavena's roughhouse style would give him a LOT of problems but Spinks would do just enough to outpoint him.
I don't see a scenario where Spinks stops Ringo, Ringo was damn near unstoppable. But over 15 yeah a definite schooling would take place. I think Spinks would get crowded by him at times, but ultimately win a clear decision
I understand why many voters go for Spinks winning by decision... but Spinks stopping Bonavena?????? Common people, you can do better than this.
