If Spinks fight the Cooney who fought Holmes, could Michael Spinks still beat Cooney?

There are very few fighters that has as much venom spit towards them as Cooney.
Most of it is unfounded, and just plain wrong. Spinks doesn't beat prime Cooney.
And more than likely the fight would end like Spinks vs Tyson, maybe a rd or
two more. The Cooney that destroyed Lyle, Norton, and Young (You know,
the same Young that beat Foreman) would ko Spinks....

Yes I know the fighters I named wasn't close to prime, but he did
stop them convincingly , as a up and coming fighter should do
against fighters that have clearly seen better days.
Look, I'm not claiming Cooney was a great fighter. (But
he had the tools) He was soft in the worse place a fighter
can be soft (His mind) Cooney didn't handle the pressure
of letting millions of White Americans down by losing to
Holmes. The sad thing is , he didn't want any part
of the black vs white foolishness that hinder America
    to this day.
He just wanted to be The Heavyweight Champion of the
world without all the racial overtones that was forced on
him and forced him to carry, and when he lost,
he suddenly became the worse fighter that ever existed
according to the majority of Americans, and mentally
    that ruined him.
Cooney fought gallantly against a prime ATG, and
clearly showed he could fight. Give the man a
little respect, like any fighter that gets in a boxing
    ring deserve.......

Late 80s spinks vs early 80s Cooney would be a very different affair from their real life actual meeting. As for who wins I’m still not entirely sure

Cooney took a bad beating from Holmes and fought a brave fight.Larry said he had the makings of a champ but was handled wrong.I find it very distasteful reading mouthy nobodies who would soil themselves if they were put in his place, calling him a bum,but empty vessels------
Some muppets just need attention ,and think the best way to get it is be rude and insulting.
As for the racial thing, in this months Ring magazine ,Larry Holmes revealed that Cooney was a guest at his daughters recent birthday party.

I'm not a fan of Cooney's, but I recognize him as a man with courage, courage enough to get in the ring with the heavyweight champion and give his best effort against him.
    You I recognize as something else,enough said.lol

It wasn't Cooney or Holmes that pushed the racial nonsense.
It was D. King and White America.

Not "Nut hugging" just trying to put a rational
face on Cooney. It's clear you hate him.
But my question to you is WHY this
much hate? Did he do something
    personal to you?

Gerry Cooney was a very good fighter. He had good footwork, solid jab, decent right and of course his signature left hook to the body and head. He possibly hit as hard as any heavyweight and had good height and reach over most of his opponents. His best wins were against fringe level guys but ones who generally rated in the lower top 10 to top 20. Even the aged versions of Lyle Norton and Young were still top 20. And men like Eddie Gregg, Phil Brown, George Chaplin, Edie Lopez and Dino Dennis werent that bad either. Gerry gave a prime Holmes one of the best fights of his career despite Being off for 13 months and only having seen one round of boxing in nearly two years... the real issue with Cooney was that he had too many periods of prolonged inactivity. That and we never saw him beat someone who was better than an aged Jimmy Young yet a step below Holmes.. a fight with Trevor Berbick or Gerry Coetzee circa 1981 might have answered some questions.. overall though, he was a fairly respectable contender..
