I figured there would be a quite a few posters who frequent the General Forum that haven't had a chance to get a really good look at LHW Michael Spinks. Here's one of his best displays at that weight in my opinion. Watch how he peppers and busts up Ranquello with the jab alone. It's a pretty short fight, so enjoy.

There are few fighters as underrated as Michael Spinks on this forum.

It's that girl Angie Varona who claims her photos were hacked.

Sounds like a situation very much in need of my assistance.

Agreed. Spinks was slightly before my time. I remember watching his fights with Holmes as a youngster with my dad and his friends.

He had great fundamentals, decent pop at that weight, good defense. One of the guys I would definitely study if I was picking up boxing.

I saw this fight live on TV at the time, and was amazed at Spinks's ability. Ranquello (his name is really spelled Ronquillo) was a rugged, powerpunching clubfighter who was not easy to beat, yet Spinks demolished him.

Later, I bought the film and added it to my library.

Just as amazing as Spinks's skill is the fact that Ranquello remained on his feet for all six rounds, in spite of the beating he took.

I could offer her lots of "assistance" too.

And by assistance, I mean "dick".

My first memory of watching a boxing fight on TV was seeing one of the Spinks-Holmes fights.

Very true, but that goes back to the reason Addie put the fight up. Most know him best as a heavyweight. When he was at LHW, man oh man, I loved watching him fight. One of my all time favorites

Spinks was one of the sneakiest punchers i have ever seen. People never seemed prepared for his bursts. Check out how he exploded on Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Marvin Johnson (my favourite left uppercut KO) and Mustafa Wassaja etc. He had this awkward, goofy style and rhythm, which lulled opponents to sleep. Mike Spinks was very efficient even if he didn't look it. He had a heavy jab and he punched in between his opponents attack, which is probabily the hardest thing to do in boxing. Great fighter and a case for the best light heavyweight ever. Although i personally think it's Ezzard C. Mike is definitely up there with Archie, Bob et al.

Yeah, I know. It's shame that(the Tyson annihilation) what he is known for. In my eyes, he is borderline top 10 ATG LHW.

You think there maybe a case for best fighter of the 1980's somewhere in there?

Brilliant jabbing display though. He really uses that jab to control the distance, pumping it out not just to keep Ramon at range but also as he moves away from the inside. Theres just a beautiful precision and timing to it that allows Michael to do significant damage with his jab alone. Ramon doesn't really have any answers for it.

Good point, very sad. It's like the people who think of Barrera as the guy Khan beat (it's true, saw it on thread at weekend!:patsch)
The Tyson fight is a dreadfully misrepresentative of Spink's ability.I honestly thought he would be the first(at world level) to give Tyson nightmares.
