Spinks was that good at `75. He would beat Roy IMO. Possibly by a knockout. Jones in my view at his best at `68. As a Light Heavy I think he would have trouble with the elite guys
Assuming this is the Jones who dominated the light heavyweight division from 1997-2003 against the Spinks of 1981-85, I think Jones on points, but not by much.
Jones is too fast. Skinks I don't think met anyone with Jones speed. Speed kills and I can't think of anyone who come close to the speed of Jones that Spinks met.
Spinks has to do it with the right hand. Roy’s whole style from the amateurs was to take away the opponent’s jab and operate off of it with speedy counters. I think Michael falls behind and then adjusts when he sees the jab isn’t the key, feinting with it and using his herky-jerky style to keep Roy a bit off-balance and guessing. Somewhere around the 11th (I’m scheduling this for 15 btw), he is pulling even and maybe a round or two behind when the Jinx finds a home and it’s good night to RJJ. And I honestly don’t think there are any other 175-pounders in history who I’d pick to beat Roy Jr.
Personally I'd pick Bob Foster to ice Roy, 6'foot 3'with a big reach advantage , laser like jab and crushing ko power.
I like Spinks here. Jones was grandstanding in a diluted championship division that was not only not his natural weight class but did not dominate the division by fighting all the available champions.
Spinks would win. If it's pre-heavyweight Jones, I favor Spinks by decision. If it's post-HW Jones coming down in weight, it's Spinks by KO.
Roy Jones. Spinks isnt good enough to deal with a fighter as proficient as Roy. The spinks jinx only a threat to lesser, less mobile opponents. As we;ve seen against stiffer competition, it usally went to a close decision and Spinks isnt getting a decision over Roy. The odds are against Spinks in this one
