I have seen Cory fight as an amateur at least 30 times and as a pro another 10 times. He is great guy. Super friendly and outgoing. I fought on a a couple of cards with him as amauters in the early 90's. He lives in Florida now and is training kids.

Is Leon more famous tho? Interesting comment as i took it for granted Michael would be more famous. Michael got enormous exposure fighting Tyson and is unfortunately infamously remembered for it in a big way.

Any other opinions? The Ali fights are a long way back now but were obviously big events for their time. Everything Ali was big.

Maybe on the forum they r equally famous. But when I talk 2 people who were around in the 70s and 80s, for sure know Leon, but they don't know about Michael.

I was a huge enthusiast of Michael as a light heavy. I put him up there with Moore and Foster as ATG at that weight class.

To me, Michael was the last of what was the most awesome light heavy Dynasty ever: Johnson, Braxton, Saad, Mustafa...those guys were amazing, and I loved them.

Of course, there were incredible light-heavies after, but it just seemed back then they were all around at the same time and there were a TON of killer fights in that division. But I'm old lol.

I thought Leon sucked from day one...in fact, the only thing I thought good that came out of Leon was enabling Ali to win the title a third time and making his WAY better brother more prominent coming up through family name (of course, Michael would have been great regardless of who his brother was, but his relation to Leon made me compelled to watch him fight long before he won the title).

A cold hard look at him does see him come up pretty short. He was a genuine top 10 contender for a time but went downhill fast. It would have been interesting to see how things would have turned out without all the substance abuse and the like.

y b right about that; So many old timers were very familiar w/ Ali, and then u mention Leon, they would know he beat Ali, but then mention Michael...who's that?

Beats Jones and Jones by narrow decisions, beats Machen by a wider margin, beats Cooper on cuts.
