I think Michael would jump to an early lead.
Then Witherspoon starts to connect with the right.
I say Tim by 9 round tko trailing on the judges scorecards.
I just think Tim is durable enough to take Michaels shots but Tims righthand is too much for Michael.

It should be taken into account that in 1982, Spinks wasn't a heavyweight and was still a light heavy. So he was in the ring as a light heavy sparring with heavies.

Michael was an ATG light heavy champ and besides Saad my favorite light heavy ever. As a heavy I just can't say much for him; at least Holmes made it four rounds (and didn't exactly look terrible in rounds 1-3 and, ironically, right before he got stopped) against Iron Mike.

If they’re both in good solid form then I would probably favor Witherspoon to win. But Spinks would be a live underdog. Both of these men had somewhat awkward styles and I think it would make for an interesting fight tactically

Any legitimately trained talented heavy would take Michael in a fight. I could see Spinks getting a slight lead over Tim for a few rounds, but Witherspoon would catch Michael and stop him late. He would not be able to take that power.

That might be going a bit far. I mean I agree that Spinks probably doesn’t do terribly well against a lot of quality heavyweights. But that doesn’t mean that he loses to everyone with a heart beat at 200 or above

I may have overstated a bit. But I confess, feel this way about several greats who have moved up.

Spoon at his best would be to much At HW for Spinks. If Mike fights on the retreat he could go the distance if he hangs with Timmy he gets stopped

As long as Witherspoon is motivated he shouldn't have too much trouble with Spinks, and for Spinks I believe Tim would be motivated.

I like Witherspoon. I've long been a little suss on Spinks ability to take good shots off quality heavyweights. While Witherspoon isn't a "puncher" as such he's not miles off it. Spinks would have to fight such a perfect fight. He wouldn't have the power to make Witherspoon gunshy and nor would he have the booming power in his jab Pinklon Thomas had in holding off a fired up in shape Witherspoon. As it was Thomas shipped some big punches from Witherspoon but often came back straight away with solid offenses of his own. It's like they stung him into action to stay ahead in the fight. Spinks wouldn't be coming back like that after taking those punches. He'd have to go the cautious route and i don't think that'd get it done.

Spinks is a guy that know how to win and I'd never write him off. I just think he's a bit undergunned in this one. Witherspoon boxes pretty well too.
