All the guys who always say they will retire young, and in control. Never really do, all the most intelligent/gifted fighters always end up like this...

But whats the difference between giving (a shot) RJJ a 1 fight licence at the age of 41, or continuing to give someone like Matt Skelton a licence who is now 43?

Admittedly, RJJ could do himself alot more harm, and i too think he should have retired long ago, but i think if thats the route they wish to take, theres not much you can do to stop it.

Afterall, how old is Holyfield now and his 'dream' is still alive?!!

 

I doubt Floyd will, the lazy ******* only fights once a year as it is.

 

I thought it would be hard to top the snore-fest that was Hopkins v Jones II. If this rumour is true, then congrats to RJJ for succeeding amicably.

 

It's a fair point, but I'm sure the board would step in if Skelton signed to fight someone like Haye, for instance.

The board shouldn't licence Jones to fight Sprott if it's scheduled over here.... I mean, an average light heavy in Green sparked him inside a round..... if Sprott is in shape and motivated he could give Roy a real hiding.

On Holyfield, I'd have reservations over whether a commission would let him fight Wlad, or Haye, but I wouldn't have any concerns over allowing him in with anyone else..... I mean, he did as good a job on Valuev as Haye did, and he's got more in the tank than Roy has right now.

 

To be honest Beeston, i really dont think the board have that much care/compassion as to the state of a shot fighter. They let MAB fight Khan (admittedly MAB hasnt fallen from grace as spectacularly as RJJ).

I think they know if they can get a big money spinning fight on these shores, they'll license it everytime IMO.

I agree Holyfield may still have abit more in the tank (skills-wise) in comparison to RJJ, but mentally, he's becoming brain-dead alot quicker, and his interview on Ringside last week shocked me how bad his speech has become.

Anyway, back to the topic, Sprott vs RJJ is a big NO NO for me.

 

I see no problem with RJJ fighting on what i do object to is him doing it at heavy.
In my opinion what roy needs to do is go to light heavy and hand pick opponents to make for competitive fights. If he tries to make a serious run for title glory again as he moves into the upper echelons he take serious punishment.

If he handpicks opponents eg lacy sheika which are winnable and competitive fights he could still be an interesting fighter and make a few bob. I would not object for example to a Clinton Woods rematch thats a competitive fight where i would be confident he wouldnt take too much punishment but could still sell a bit in the UK and would be competitive

 

I'd watch it.... I'm sure it would do well domestically as well.

Sprott hasn't got the punching power to do permanent damage to RJJ. I'd much rather see Sprott in with him instead of the likes of Haye and if I'm honest I think it would be a challenge for Sprott.

At least if RJJ gets beat by Sprott he'll realise that it is over.

If Sprott wins it would be a good name on his record and could set up at the very least a Londsdale belt bout.

This is similar scenario to th Haye vs Audley fight, at first everyone was like "no" and now everyone's like "yeh"

 

Sprott has had a really odd career when you think about it.

Bad KO losses to average fighters, then beating Hoffman, Williams, Harrison..... and taking plenty of good Euro's the distance in Germany, some of which he could have beaten if he'd been in shape and focused.

 

He's taken a lot of fights at short notice and away from home so possibly could have had a few more W's on his record than he does now. A good, honest pro, and i hope he can use the Prizefighter title to get a few decent paydays before he hangs 'em up...
