Eddie Hearn is on twitter now trying to get momentum behind the campaign to light the Olympic Torch.

Eddie Hearn: "Just had Michael Watson in the office..what an inspiration that man is. He wants to light the Olympic flame next year..let's make it happen!"

With everything the man has been through, I can't think of anybody better.

    Get involved! :good

Michael only turned pro when he knew that his own Olympic dream was over. It's all in the book. He was born close to the Olympic venue, he trained near it...it's his home. A natural selection, brilliant.

    Adios.

Won't they want someone who has been involved in the Olympics in the past??

Cheers Bunce, be great if you could give this a mention on your next show . . . perhaps interview Michael about it?

It's an amazing idea, which I am behind 100%. How do I show my support / put my name to this?

It'd be great if this came off but my guess is an ex-Olympic athlete will get the job.

Hit the nail on the head. :deal:deal

Exactly what I was thinking, I suppose if there is a big enough push behind they will let Michael Watson be part of the torch relay.

Perhaps an ESB campaign is needed for this, the last one seemed to do the trick! I think that having Watson light the flame would be an iconic image that really would start London 2012 off in the right way. It's too lazy to go for Steve Redgrave or Kelly Holmes, granted they're both great Olympians but where's the story behind them?

At the very least he should be in a prominent part of the torch relay...

I doubt it would work for this. Does anyone know who Michael Watson is outside of boxing fans?

"Lord Coe has 'formally decided' to 'absent' himself from the decision about who should light London's Olympic flame. It will instead be left to film director Danny Boyle and LOCOG's creative team, who are reponsible for designing the opening ceremony on July 27 2012."

i think we all need to have a word with Danny Boyle...
