IMO this is the kind of unheralded fighter that doesn't get enough props. The sort that is middling at world class level but of course towers above the rest of the sport's participants that make up its large majority. The sort that is the glue that holds the whole game together. A moderately tough, moderately skilled, lunchpail fighter that will obliterate any pretenders looking to crawl up from the regional club-fighter muck but will probably lose to any genuine worthy contender. BoxRec only lists him incompletely as 1-1 in the amateurs for some reason, but his true record was a terrific 103-7. He campaigned professionally from 2001 until 2018, between lightweight and welter. His opponent list is an impressive roster of big names from those divisions in that era. Despite that Arnaoutis managed to be stopped only thrice: by "Swift" Danny Óscar Garcia, "Vicious" Victor Manuel Ortíz, and Jaron A. "Boots" Ennis. All pretty big punchers, all in their primes. He also went the distance with the likes of Juan Fernando "Iron Twin" Urango Rivas, Kendall "Rated-R" Holt, Ricardo "Mochuelo" Torres, José Manuel "Josesito" López, and the underrated hard-smacking journeyman Lanardo "Pain Server" Tyner - in fact, it was Arnaoutis who snatched then 19-0 prospect Tyner's zero in arguably the Greek's best victory. This past Monday actually marked twenty years since his excellent slugfest draw on ShoBox with Urango. Check it out if you've never! This content is protected
13-0 (10) vs. 10-0-1 (4), laying it on the line. I miss getting high-quality fights like this regularly on Friday nights. I also miss Nick Charles.
Incredibly strong finish by Arnaoutis in the championship rounds after maintaining such a grueling pace - a finish which he needed. (down 86-85 on Steve Farhood's card through nine; and if he didn't sweep the last few he would have lost on the judges') Bro had a huge tank full of gas on him.
Best p4p from Greece since Antonios Christoforidis? (Arnaoutis' fellow Athenian is to date the country's only male world champion in boxing)
