A boxing champion is facing court after cocaine believed to be worth £268,000 was found in a car.
Michael Brodie, a former British and European champion from Manchester who also held a version of the world title, was arrested after officers stopped a white Vauxhall Astra on a motorway.
Mr Brodie, of Kirkwood Drive, Collyhurst, is accused of possessing cocaine with intent to supply, along with Paul Gairns, 33, of Kittybert Avenue, Gorton. Both men have been remanded in custody and will appear at Preston Crown Court to enter pleas next month.
The car was stopped on the M61 between junctions five and six southbound at Chorley. Both men were arrested at the roadside.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "The car was searched and drugs were seized. The driver and the passenger were both arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and were subsequently charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply."
Mr Brodie, 37, who fought at both featherweight and super-bantamweight, turned professional at the age of 20. He picked up the British super-bantamweight title in 1997 with a victory at the Wythenshawe Forum. He then won Commonwealth and European titles.
His first crack at a world title ended in a points defeat in 2000 but he won the WBF Featherweight and IBO Featherweight titles in 2002 and 2003.
He retired from the ring in 2005 but launched a comeback in 2009, beating Londoner Mark Alexander at the Velodrome.
He then took on fellow Mancunian Anthony Crolla in Wigan in November of that year. He went down to a third-round defeat and has not fought since.
His overall record stands at 36 wins and four defeats

Id say around that , police inflate these prices when they have a result, they value it by how much it is worth by the gram. Where in reality it was 2 k and worth about 100k.

I reckon he is looking at 6-8 years as a courier.

Michael's a real heartbreaking story, being robbed by Willie Jorrin will never ever leave my mind. The In-Jin Chi fights were immense he was a true world class fighter and he deserved better. Don't get me wrong he can't say he never got lucky against Simon Ramoni i believe he lost. But the lad beat Jorrin and beat him well..

His mother's death left him heartbroken and he promised her the title. I heard about this a while back and someone said he's a cab driver.

As LP said it's gotta be a tip off..
