He's a helluva lot more deserving of it than that bum Gatti.

He was hideously talented, as smooth as anything you saw in a boxing ring, and being a tall, fast, rangey, mobile southpaw made him almost impossible to live with at his best.

To be fair to the old guys,it would've been insane to fight STN at that point mate.
No one could blame them for dodging him at that point given how far on they were.

And he was awarded a shut out against Ice,but I felt John actually might've won, although that fight shows a version of Nunn that was about 20% of the primetime version.

Yeah, he seems to go under the radar too much these days PTF, he was a real classy fighter and a real avoided fighter too.

i actually had his address one time and we would correspond that way. he also replied to all letters. i need to go back and find the info on his version but from what i remember and have been told is he got railroaded with an excessive sentence for a first time offender. he sold some coke to an undercover version of law enforcement and it was "supposedly" enough to be the difference in giving him 5 year sentence but instead of 37 years is what i remember

Michael Nunn given 24 year prison sentence

31.01.04 - Former World Middleweight champion Michael Nunn was sentenced to 24 years in prison for purchasing one kilogram of cocaine with a net worth of $24,000 from a undercover agent. Nunn, now forty years old (58-4), had at one time been the holder of the IBF & WBA Middleweight and Super-Middleweight titles in the 1980s. He beat Frank Tate in 1988 to win the IBF middleweight title. Nunn defended his crown six times, but was never able to achieve the fame of fighters of the time like Sugar Ray Leonard & Marvin Hagler. Nunn lost his title in 1991 to James Toney, who beat Nunn in the 11th round before more than 10,000 fans in Davenport. Nunn has also been charged with various offenses since 1983, including drug possession, traffic violations, unlawful use of weapons, driving with a suspended license, assaulting an officer and interfering with official acts.

Whether it's 24 or 30 stretch he got, that's basically a death sentence at 48.Must be much worse for a guy who's scaled the heights he has.
Shame.Feel like writing the poor guy a letter, but I say **** like that all the time and don't do it.
Would be nice to send him a note saying a few of us here still hold him in very high regard and he's in our thoughts.
I can verify that letters can have a profound impact for guys in the nick.Whether it be positive or negative, that little bit of paper can mean an awful lot.

I don't want to start speculating but even allowing for the heavier sentencing in the States,a first offender could easily get 4 years for that in the UK.

Shouldn't really say this but it's bizarre.
Sorry if I missed it Iceman but did your post say if Michael had previous convictions?

yeah i was shocked that he was even mixed up in that, even more on the sentence. it was around the time he was ranked in the top 3 in most of the ABCs at 175 when he actually got arrested. he was trying to get a fight with Roy Jones, he had won 17 out of his last 18 fights . alot of people were saying roy didnt want the fight. sad but you play you pay
