Jones UD I don't see how Spinks can outbox Jones. Ofcourse Spinks has a punchers chance but Jones is very hard to outbox in his prime, go with the boxer who can punch

I like Spinks big ... Jones could survive and hide but no way he wins this one ... Spinks own speed is over looked ..

Jones UD. It was hard to win more than a round or two boxing with Jones in his prime. Great boxers like Hopkins and Toney were totally outclassed. Spinks doesn't have the hand speed to catch Jones and doesn't have the reflexes or defence to avoid him. And don't forget, Jones has just as much KO power as Spinks and is more likely to land with unorthodox punches. The guys Spinks caught and stopped were nothing comparable to Jones at all.

The only time prime Jones was remotely troubled was when Hopkins pressured him in the few rounds he won in their fight, getting him on the ropes and working inside. Johnson also did this later on. Spinks was not that type of fighter so IMO he's the underdog. I think fighters like Qawi would be more trouble for Jones.

You're comparing Middleweight fights to a Light Heavyweight fight. Big difference. Jones didn't beat anybody as good as Hopkins and Toney at 175 (apologies to Virgil Hill). Hopkins was a tad green and I don't think Toney deserve mention with Spinks anyway.
Jones would have to do a lot of moving in this fight. I could conceive of him squeeking out a decision, but I think Spinks eventually catches him late.

At light-heavy, I see Spinks winning by KO. I think Jones at supermiddle was a more effective fighter than Spinks was at light-heavy, but up at light-heavy in an h2h it's a different story. Spinks is bigger, more natural at the weight, and hits harder than anyone Jones faced at lhw IMO. I love Roy and think that on his night he could beat anyone, like someone else said if he and Spinks fought ten times I think Roy would win some, but if this fight happened once and I had to bet on it, I see Spinks landing hard and flush at some point in the fight, and I don't see Jones holding it. Spinks by late KO after an engaging battle.

Yes I could see Spinks winning most likely. Spinks was 6'3" Jones has never faced anyone that tall and great as Spinks was. Of course this was at Light Heavyweight not Roy's natural weight. I mean I could see Jones winning and I could definitely see him having Spinks hurt. There is no simple way of beating Jones below Heavyweight.

I think i'm siding with Michael Spinks on this one a little more, he was the greatest light heavy of all time. Definitely not ruling Roy out though he could pull it off. Roy was at his best at middle/supermiddle.

Spinks is the only fighter below heavyweight that i could see beating Jones decisively.

Spinks was most certainly the bigger puncher.

First thing I thought when I saw the opening post.

I just feel Spinks is too big, awkward and dangerous for Roy to do his thing against. Jones has a bloody good chance, but Spinks could stop him at any time IMO, and I don't believe Jones had particularly awful punch resistance prior to him dropping down post-Ruiz.

Spinks is just one tricky customer, I think his doubling,, tripling, quadrupling etc etc of his left hand could catch Roy out and set up something big. Spinks was rangy as well, Roy being in-and-out quick as a flash might not help him here.

I don't think he'd stop Spinks, so the 12/15 would be hellacious and seriously dangerous for him. I'd fancy Roy to beat Fitz, just, but Spinks and Foster are real bad match-ups for him IMO.

Jones was lightning quick, but Spinks was the better boxer and puncher. No doubt RJ is the better athlete, but Spinks knew how to overcome adversity. Eventually, Spinks would have either adjusted to RJJ's speed and outboxed him, or just time him and got the KO. I believe the KO would have come.

No, I wouldn't say that Jones still had great power at Light Heavy

Never said he didnt BH but Spinks was one of the hardest punchers ever at the weight and real, fair dinkum light heavy.

No way did Roy have more concussive power than Spinks, just had better speed to land his biggest shots.

He was still a good puncher, but by no means on the level of Spinks. Jones let far too many go the distance (or near) despite hitting them with everything but the kitchen sink for me to believe in his KO power at Light Heavy. Comparatively, of course. Spinks was one of the best punchers in the history of the division. Jones doesn't even compare.
