She is brutal. I would listening to a 30 minute Adam Smith commentary showreel less stressful than a 30 min feature interview with her
But she doesn't even have the ability to capitalise on a boxer opening up in error. She'd either be too busy thinking about who's willy she's going to suck later on that night or she'd probably be thinking about her next Instagram photoshoot. She's not there to discuss the pros and cons of the southpaw stance.
Now that the boozers are open again talks are due to be taking place this week regarding her interviews and the platforms they air on. I don't have any inside info on how these discussions will play out but my gut feeling is there is an audience out there for the kind of content Phelps puts out there so she could be headed towards a more prominent boxing media outlet soon. This could change though depending on the mood of the boozer.
I’ve been impressed with Ali Drew recently- absolute rocket, but she is also a good interviewer. I saw one she did with Dubois the other day and she even managed to get him to open up.
Media is different these days. If you asked the wrong questions now you do not get invited back or your content gets reported. In the pre YouTube days the fighters and promoters had to be nice to the press or they would print trash about them. They had the leverage to ask whatever questions they wanted. Hearn has done a great job of controlling social media and using Sky Sports news. Traditional tabloid journalism is not relevant anymore. The fighters love interviewers like Phelps as they tell here exactly what she can and cannot ask.
Forget her for a moment in terms of looks and all the crap that goes with it. When is the last time you heard MJP's speak about boxing and express any sort of knowledge on the sport? I am not saying she doesn't know her stuff but when is the last time you heard her express it? I know she's an interviewer and she's there to ask the questions but there are questions you can ask that show your knowledge and experience, I haven't heard her ask anything original or thought provoking. You know what I mean? When is the last time she's talked tactics, training or anything like that? She just sticks a camera in a fighters face, laughs loudly and asks boring, standard and safe questions and pouts a lot.
IFL often talk to Eddie oabout the other side of the sport, behind the scenes negotiations and rumours of fights, Kugan has sat with Eddie multiple times while Eddie has explained how fights are made, how negotiations are going, they have talked percentages and costs of shows and other stuff. OK, it isn't deep tactical talk most of the time, I agree with you there but at least they give boxing fans something, I just don't see what MJP's brings to the table apart from the fact she's female.
This is true but it's a sign of the times unfortunately. We've gone from Reg Gutteridge, Ian Darke and Jim Watt on commentary to Adam Smith and Matt Mackerel. We've gone from Duke McKenzie, Barry McGuigan, Nicky Piper and Gary Mason in the studio to Tony Bellew, Johhny Nelson and Carl Froch. We've gone from Colin Hart in the studio to Gareth f'n Davies. Come to think of it I can't remember the last time I heard a pundit or journalist talk about tactics and styles in the build up to a fight, have they been instructed not to or are the pundits really so clueless they wouldn't be capable of doing so ??
hahahahahaha. You could be onto something there. They are having some seriously **** performances lately, all they ever do is lose. Liam Wiliams - lost, Robbie Davies Jr- lost, Willy Hutchinson - lost all in the last month . Plus Lee Reeves, Kid Galahad. Yves Ngabu, Jake Ball, Jason Quigley all lost. It's one serious losers gym at the moment. @Bent-nose aka Amer Khan of you can take a moment from your lifetime obsession of hate towards Josh Warrington, lets have some insight.. is Michelle to blame for the Ingles poor performances?
