Just seen a lad who i used to box with facebook status 'RIP Mick Carney'. I know he wasn't well a while back. Met Mick when i had a session at Fitzroy Lodge he was a nice man, quiet but run that gym brilliantly and has produced many quality fighters AM/Pro. He's a sad loss to the sport but mostly to the young lads he's nurtured and looked after for many years. From his positive futures work to his running of the club in general (training etc). He basically dragged that club up to where it is now without much help from Funding. This content is protected [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLmCh0iDcik[/ame] May you RIP Mick
Also reading Gus Robinson passed away today as well, He kept Hartlepool boxing going in 80's. May he R.I.P
Buncey hope you see this, any chance of a little piece on one of your shows this week about Mick. Cheers mate.
Quite shocked there is so few posts on here for Mick. I trained in a few boxing gyms and never met a better trainer. I remember my first visit to the Lodge, shadow boxing in the mirror for a few mins working on my shots and slipping only for Mick to come up to me and scream 'WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU DOING TRYING TO GET OUT THE WAY OF A BUS' but he the went on to explain in the most sincere and succinct manner why my over exaggerated slipping was wrong and he quickly showed me how to correct it. He had time to help everybody that walked into his gym, although you may have to recieve a volley of abuse before you got it but it was ever in a truly malicous manner. He was raw, upfront, straight to the point... There was no bullsh!tting from Mick he let you know where you stood straight from the off. I have so much love for this guy... Big up Mick Carney, he was the heart and soul of the Lodge and helped out thousands of people for next to nothing in return. The Lodge will never be the same without him.
Agreed, I'm a bit disappointed it's got a lack of replies but had a feeling it wouldn't get many. Some people just don't seem to bothered by these type of hero's.
