I guess it comes down to personalities. I'm sure Froch would have made more money with Warren (assuming the promoters cuts are the same) but he wouldn't have had the chance to leave the same legacy behind. Warren would have gotten him a title shot quicker (when does he worry about/respect domestic titles or rankings?) but wouldn't have allowed him to face the toughest challenges out there which is what Mick and Carl seem to want.

Fair play to Froch but it's a shame the opportunity to sell boxing to the British public, provided by the Super Six, hasn't been maximised to date.

I think Mick's main issues are the actual PROMOTING of his fighters.

Managerial wise, he isn't all that bad.

OK, he didn't manage Witter particularly well, taking ages to get him a comeback fight after losing to Bradley, and Murray was put in with a few stiffs before facing Thaxton a year too late - but generally the fighters are matched much better.

Certainly better than the pathetic matches that the likes of Frank Maloney have been guilty of making lately.

But promotionally, he is bloody awful. **** undercards - the actual fights aren't all that bad, but nobody gives a damn about the guys within them, because firstly, we don't know who the **** they are, and secondly, because there are better fights that he could make.

Its not really early days, the guys what 32?
With his style of stand and trade you wonder when its going to take its toll. Hes needs to maximise his profile now before he dips, if for example hes gets hammered by kessler then abraham. Hes finnished. At top level anyway.

Primetime was bound to fail no meaning full advertisements on any tv stations which is **** when there is a new station. You pay what you have to to make it work and they didn't do that thats the main reason it failed. Never mind it being a World title. I dont know how much it cost but Hennessy is down on money over this fight a big loss even if Froch won the fight.

Sorry, I meant early days in terms of holding a world title. Froch is a relatively fresh fighter for 32 yrs old although he'll have some serious miles on the clock after his next two fights.

The question is though - how much of Froch's recent success is due to Mick? Not much.

The Taylor fight was promoted by DiBella. Hennesey's name was just there for show. The Super six has been put together by Hershman at Showtime. All Mick has done is say "yes".

The areas which I consider to be Hennesey's areas of responsibility (now that the fights are effectively set up) - marketing his fighters, TV deals, maximising revenue - he's been nothing short of shocking.

Think Bunce is comparing Mick Hennessy's approach to Froch against Frank Warren's approach to Calzgahe and Hatton. Having gained a title Froch has fought an ex champ in Taylor and a contender in Dirrell whilst Calzaghe and Hatton fought no names in their early defences. Someone please correct me if I misinterpreted Bunces comments.

Nope i think you got it spot on KC

and the thing with marketing is it costs money and lots of it - maybe they dont feel the market is there to justify the outlay

There's probably a bit more to it than just saying yes. Mick obviously invested a lot in Froch to get him to the stage he was at pre-Taylor and that was a risky fight for Mick and Froch which could easily have backfired. That risk paid off in getting Froch a place in the Super Six. Perhaps not much required in promotional ability but a lot required in balls!

the marketing may cost an inital outlay. But the point being that more people nationwide will get interested and lead to more attention.
Ricky Hatton is only known nationwide due to the promtion done by warren + sky.

Its a bit late now but had mick done some proper promotion for the super six/dirrell fight he would have got a lot more money frm primetime. He should have put it on terrestrial for a dropdwon price but hey what do i know im not a promoter

    :deal

Froch obviously gets something out of it, he ain't stupid by a long shot. Meaningful titles, big fights, presumably decent money and control over his career.

Not sure that these have always been the case with other promoters, and that may be why so many of them leave certain other promoters acrimoiously.

We'd all love boxing to be live on the telly but if they're willing to have fights on at 3am for US telly and the bucks it brings in I guess that they can live without Dave Darts and chums

    Clueless, hopeless, everything.

Put it this way, I do a Sports Journalism course at uni where there a lot of casual Boxing fans. On Friday was everybody talking about Froch v Dirrell-No-it was all about Haye v Valuev. A lot of that will be the sky factor-so why didn't Mick make sure Froch was on there?

When I asked a few about Froch they were all, "Is he fighting tomorrow, didn't know that. I saw him beat Pascal and Taylor but hadn't heard about him in a while."

Yet the same people can tell you exactly how tall Valuev is, how tall his wife is, his hobbies outside the ring, and compare Haye's speed in relation to Valuev's power. People are interested in the fight because itÂ’s been promoted well.

Now there should be no doubt that Mick is a good manager. He got his man a world title shot in his home city, got him in this super 6 and everything. However he seems to be forgetting the "promoter" part of his job description.

After the Pascal fight which supposedly did such great figures, although I haven't seen anything official yet, Froch should have been everywehere. That silly game show that Khan was on-Froch sould have been to. He should have been on Celebrity Family Fortunes, Loose Women, This Morning, all that to get his face out there on itv. That way people know who he is and it would have been hard for itv to turn down the Taylor fight. If he had been promoted properly (maybe not to Hatton levels where we know the inside out of his family:tong) Hennessy could have realistically received a fee he would be happy with. That way Froch becomes a big star, itv get ratings etc.

It's such a shame that Froch isn't as well known as it should be. As I said above, nothing wrong with Mick's management of Froch, but his promoting og him has been awful. When the casual fans are talking about Haye in the week before Froch's fight, you know something is wrong.

A good point, but on the other hand how much money did Calzaghe and Hatton make for their last few fights. I can't see Froch fighting for much longer if he gets smashed to pieces by Kessler and Abraham as I am expecting and with proper marketting he could've made more money out of those 2 fights and his next 2.
