Mick...thick?

It's all very well saying Mick was brave to put Froch in this tournament, but he was forced into it by his own ineptitude. He couldn't get Froch a UK TV deal against anybody else, so they went into this tournament with a guarantee of revenue to be split amongst the fighters and Showtimes backing in the US.

He also waited until Froch was 30 years old before doing anything at all at world class.

And he made a complete mess of this fight, even with such a great stage being this tournament he still ****ed it up. Crappy undercard nobody cared about it and a rubbish PPV channel fraught with problems.

i agree completely....putting frochy out to there to the british joe public has been shambolic to say the least but he is wbc champ and taking the dollar.........and the warren bit is bang on.

 

to be honest the tournement is a bit too complicated. i have tired explaining it to general boxing fans and they just dont get it.

Dibella said mick had nothing to do with promoting the Froch Taylor fight and missed a nice opportunity for some of his other fighter to box in the States.

People were left in the lurch wondering how they could get to the fight and **** all was organised. About 40 people went to it.

Even silly things like people wanting to know what time the bar shut and more importantly will they show the Taylor Abraham fight were completely ignored.

The fact Kessler came over and nobody knew **** all about it is ridiculous. They could have really gone to town with that one and as it stands it was announced that late nobody even knew about it and those that did, didnt believe Kessler would really be there.

 

Is it me or does Hennessey remind anyone else of Nick Griffin ?

 

Agree. Great for boxing fans but not for bringing outsiders in. Kessler means something because Calzaghe fought him here in front of 50k+ but Dirrell didnt on his own nor would any of the others.

 

Just tell them it works like a champions league group stage with top four going into semi and finals.

Excellent post. As a manager, I think Mick is very good for Carl, as a promoter he is appallingly and shockingly bad.
When was the last time we had a fighter win a legit world title (as in one of the major alphabet organizations) in a made-for-tv war, and then immediately make two defences against high quality opposition in less than a year? He should be superstar, a household name in the UK at least.
Unfortunately, nobody outside of the boxing fraternity or Nottingham really knows who Froch is or have even heard of him.

You are right, Carl should be on all the television talk shows, doing the rounds etc to familiarize himself with the wider, mainstream public so that his name is recognized and his fights generate much more mainstream interest (and therefore the bigger bucks).
If Warren can get 6 million + viewers for Khan on ITV when he's fighting no-chancers, then imagine what Froch should be getting for risky fights against the likes of Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler, Abraham, etc... It defies all common sense!

I really like and admire Carl for his genuine, willing attitude. He truly does want to get in there and test himself against the best available, and whether you like him or not you have to respect him for that. However, I'm afraid that Hennessey has let him down very, very badly.
I was really pissed over the tv fiasco over the Taylor fight, and the horrible, bitter little twisted part of me is glad the whole Primetime thing was such a disaster (partly because a. it should have been commercially a much bigger fight, and b. I'm a Virgin Media customer and didn't even have the opportunity to see it! I have to wait for the ITV show tomorrow - a whole week after the fight).

I really hope Mick Hennessey or any of his team reads these forums, just to know how much we despise what he is (or rather isn't) doing.
Whilst I can't blame him for the decline in boxing's mainstream coverage and popularity over the years, he certainly is preventing some golden opportunities we have to help make things commercially better for the sport in this country, be it through his own pig-headed stubborness to accept what's on offer from the various tv networks, or through just being completely stupid.

Open message to Carl Froch: As soon as the opportunity arises, do yourself a favour and get with a promoter who can promote you the way you deserve to be promoted.

If carl was to leave Mick before the kessler fight, would his spot in the tournament be nul and void??
I did read an article by Kevin Mitchell in the guardian before the dirrell fight questioning Frochs "strained" relatinship with Hennessey.

Bernard Hopkins supposedly offered Froch £5m for a fight earlier this year – yet he is tied to a contract with Showtime worth a fraction of that to fight three times, possibly four, against the best 12-stone fighters in the game.

I question the accuracy of that article. No way did Hopkins offer Froch 5 mil to fight him :-(
