Just wondering, how much does a cut man get paid? And how do you end up being a cut man?

I dont imagine they get paid much but they have the best seat in the house.

  2. On a slightly different note, how could I become one?

To answer the first post the amounts vary. Ian 'Jumbo' Johnson got about 4 grand for being in Sosnowski's corner in the Vitali WBC challenge.

On the second note you need to start getting involved at the gym and go and hang out with the more experienced guys. There was a good interview article with Jumbo on this site if you do a search.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Thank you. I've never been brave enough to step into a ring as a fighter but would love to get involved with the sport in some capacity.

Just get down your local gym. The training is great and there is no pressure to spar or fight whatever your age. It would be sensible to do some training yourself if you are gonna start helping out oin the pads etc.

I would start reading up about the cuts business if you're interested, properly interested.

You couldn't go much worse than some of the guys that work corners, just recently with the big towel just shoved in the cut. (Can't remember the fight)

A thread about corner **** ups would be immense....

  7. Yep, I'm properly interested.

I know I'll never turn it into a full time profession but would definitly love the oppotunity to develop the skill and work within the sport.

Mick is by FAR the best in the business. He makes 99% of cutmen looking simply shocking at their job.

  9. Worse has to have been the plastic glove that looked like a condom during the Tyson vs Douglas fight.

  10. I think Williamson is helped by having fighters that are generally calm in the corner, whether that's their nature or the fact that they know he's the man I'm not sure, perhaps both.

As bad as some cutmen are, they aren't helped by having their fighter fidgeting, leaning forward or poking their head out of the corner to have a look around.

Plus, Williamson gets in the corner for a good look, rather than leaning through the ropes and having to make do.

The BBBofC should get Williamson to create a course on cuts and every cutman should be made to take that course before being allowed to work a corner. His fighters always come out clean, with the blood flow halted and the vaseline applied correctly. No rush jobs, no shaking, no messy vaseline, no blood all over the fighter, none of that.

    Williamson sets the standard.

I've heard Tibbs is just as good, I know a guy who knows Mick and during the fights he's generally not interested . He just does his job and that's maybe why he's so good.
