.......thoughts ? One thing that always sticks in ma mind.......more so now....given the heat i see VVarren get.....is how VVarren held his own regarding Duff and King for example....from what i can tell. Correct me if am wrong...... Cheers :good
Seems like an interesting character I would say read his book 20 and out pretty much encapsulates British boxing from the 50's to the early 90's
i think his book 20 and out is a great read, really like Mickey Duff after reading it, hell of a character
Hairy, was talking about you to yer pal the cutsman the other week when he was in ma pals corner in Paisley, he had his infamous kappa tracky on and he knew who you were, might have gotten him the sack as he was still outside havin a smoke at the end of his next fighters 1st round.... Great guy he is.
Ye fascinating read obviously gave his life to boxing and did it all fought, trained promoted, managed. Was involved with every major British fighter up until ****** came in essentially. Also has some good stories about Robinson and Marciano. Done it all.
Spoke to my Uncle the other week about boxing and he said Duff was talking to a current promoters girlfriend/wife and the promoter went ''what you talking to this old man for? he's finished!. He's yesterdays man.''. I heard Duff used to book venue's to stop Fisheyes getting them even if he didn't have a show booked originially. Not sure if true but don't see why the guy who told me would lie about it.
Mickey Duff had true knowledge of the game, excellent matchmaker and contacts all round, did a great job with Honeyghan, Conteh and many others. The much quoted ' if u want loyality buy a dog ' is credited to Mickey, I believe he isn't very well now and in a home
