Can you imagine if Ortiz had pulled this?
He had an injury that genuinely warranted pulling out.With that snib,as has been mentioned elsewhere,he will always be open to breaking it.
Do you think Carl Froch(who has a similar,rudder-like honker) wou;ld have pulled out at the same stage?

Hard to criticize Garcia after putting on a dominant performance.

Rest assured that Fossil Bob "the rematch king" Arum will use the dubious conclusion to justify a take 2.

 

Josecito broke Ortiz's jaw with his fist and not with his head. In other words, Ortiz got his jaw broke with a legal shot while Mikey got his nose broken with an illegal headbutt.

 

Clearly, people are missing the point here. The nose was broken from an illegal blow - period.

When Israel Vazquez had his nose broken by Marquez it was legitimate punch and, therefore, Vazquez retiring resulted in a win for Marquez.

Garcia basically had his nose twisted by a desperate and clumsy headbutt - not a punch.

Why should a Boxer risk a fight he has been dominating because of a foul?

 

I'll have to edit my post Bazooka.It looks as if I'm still discussing Ortiz when I talk about the big snout.

Victor would be destroyed for the same move,yet his last pull-out was far more legitimate and acceptable than this.
And fighters have carried on with far worse broken noses.One springs to mind and even though he did bow out,he took far worse punishment for far longer.

I agree... They do baby Mikey a bit. not that he needs it! Rios is just a different breed.. He would of wanted to go out and fight!

 

No question that Roberto Garcia knew what was at stake and made a calculated decision once he knew that the fight would go to the cards. And no question that Mikey, while not thrilled, was probably willing to take what everyone knew was a guaranteed W rather than soldier on with a broken nose for another four rounds.

But that shouldn't diminish all the good work that Garcia had done in the first eight rounds. He earned the title because he beat the crap out of him for the first five and outboxed him somewhat soundly for the rest of the way. And it shouldn't diminish the fact that the the most punishment that Siri was able to inflict came as a result of an illegal (and, imo, not completely accidental) headbutt.

If Garcia took the easy way out, it's because he had done enough work before to ensure it was there for him.
