Here's another thing you're forgetting. All those other sports had leagues to begin with. They always had a structure. Boxing has never really had that type of structure. It would be next to impossible to take a sport like boxing and try to structure it like MMA, basketball, baseball, or football.

I'm not forgetting it. I don't think it's necessary for them to function EXACTLY like a league. I am proposing that they have a union like the other sports leagues do, and go from there. There are alot of variables. Many things are dependent on other outcomes.

It's a lot easier to have a union if all the potential union members are at least some what unified. There's no unity in boxing. Trying to institue a union would be next to impossible. Even if you were able to start a union, that still wouldn't stop other sacntioning bodies from popping up.

We cannot argue what the boxers will or won't do. If they feel that the union offers things they are not capable of getting on their own, they may very well at least consider such a union.

Once again, how does a union stop another organization from forming?

They don't. They simply ignore it and abide by whatever agreement they have made with the sanctioning body of their choosing.

Do you propose that we just continue to recognize more and more belts?

I'm not proposing anything. I'm shedding light on the reality that having one sanctioning body is not realistic. Even if you had a union, another sanctioning body could from and just start another union.

we have all these 'sanctioning' bodies, but universally speaking ring's champ is considered THE champ of the weight class. Correct? The other orgs are just trying to make money off of their fees on the boxers.

A sanctioning body wouldn't start a union. And even if they did, they would have to offer more than the already formed union to gain any footing. Otherwise, as I have said, it would die out.

It isn't unrealistic simply because it is difficult. The issue is rather simple. The boxers and the promoters need to decide that they will no longer recognize so many titles. The problem is getting them to all have a common interest in doing so, something that will benefit them all. That is also not unrealistic, simply undetermined. I don't know how to do it, but that doesn't mean it can't be done by people within the sport.

You have said that you have no problem with the 4 major sanctioning bodies. I am essentially asking how many will it take before you have a problem. We are already on the verge of a fifth one. I find that unacceptable. If you do as well, then lets hear your solutions.... and if you do accept it, tell me how is it beneficial to the sport to keep recognizing more titles?

Once again, even if there is a union, that doesn't stop there from being more than one sanctioning body. There are 3 big auto companies in the U.S; G.M, Ford, and Chrysler. All the union workers are members of the same union, the U.A.W.

You would need more than a union to get rid of the multiple sanctioning bodies, you would need to form a league. Not only that, but the league would have to be able to offer enough financial rewards to not only convince many of the more prominant boxers to abandon the status quo, but also enough to establish a quasi monopoly which would stomp out any attempts at competition(anti trust exemptions will be needed for this, which would mean alot more government scrutiny)

I hate to break it to you but there are essentially 5 sacntioning bodies now. The Ring serves as a quasi sanctioning body. They have rankings, they give out belts, and in the Mayweather/Hatton fight, Buffer announced that it was for the Ring Magazine WW title.

We will keep having more sanctioning bodies only if the networks, fans, and major sanctioning bodies allow it. The WBA/WBC/IBF had a good plan to stomp out the WBO. They didn't allow their fighters to unify with the WBO. This had the effect of discouraging prominant fighters from pursuing the title. Of course, the so called experts and the fans complained. They didn't want fighters getting stripped for going after the WBO belt or having the WBO belt. The big 3 eventually relented, and now we have a big 4(big 5 with Ring magazine)

Boxing titles would be more meaningful if there were only one, fighters would have to take more risk to get a title shot instead of waiting around like they do.

Following that logic the World Cup should be held every three months to give more countries the chance to win it.

World titles mean little in boxing because it's too easy to get one and too many average fighters can call themselves world titlist, heck Gavin Rees is a world champ.
