Vann still the man – at the age of 68!

MICKEY VANN will referee David Haye’s heavyweight grudge fight with Dereck Chisora — at the age of 68!

It is another blow to the British Boxing Board of Control who oppose the July 14 clash at Upton Park.

The BBBC insist on referees retiring at the age of 65.

Vann, who has officiated multiple world-title fights, said: “I still referee and did a tough 12-rounder in Ukraine last month.”

Odds on Vann to collapse (and subsequently be OK, obviously) during the fight?

    The circus rolls on!

Before anyone objects that Mickey Vann as referee will add too much 'respectability' to this event and ruining the flavour of the show, it has been confirmed that Tulisa will be giving him a blow job while Dappy sings.

No issue with this. Mandatory retirement for referees including football is bull**** anyway. The fact that Collina had to retire was ridiculous.

As an Evertonian, I am not even going to mention the fact the Collina was brought out of retirement by FIFA for the sole purpose of ensuring Everton didn't make it to the group stages of the Champions League against Villa Real. 'Cos I'm not bitter like!

They should have gotten Joe Cortez :bart

One of Dereck's cornermen distracts Joe while Dereck himself whacks Haye with a chair!

Exactly what I was going to say. Vann was and still is one of the best refs.

  13. It was never going to be anyone else.

As mentioned above, forcing officials who are still doing a good job to retire because of age is ridiculous....

Especially in football when the likes of Elleray were still up with the best of them but had to pack in, yet Phil Dowd looks six months pregnant and is allowed to officiate.

If they can pass the fitness test and have good enough eyesight, let them carry on (in all sports) until they drop or want to pack in, as far as I'm concerned.
