Burley. Walker is overrated. Dave Shade should be 2-1 up over him, and he drew with an old Jack Britton. Burley feints him and gets his timing down on route to a UD.

Walker is a class above. One of the true greats of boxing. . And the greatest bodypuncher in history. This Burley worship has gotten ridiculous.. Sober or stiff, Walker wins.

For a really great article on Walker get the Feb 1983 issue of The Ring magazine. Fantastic.

I have always thought it, though. He gets elevated to Godhood P4P, MW and WW, but it doesn't actually line up with what happened in his career. At welterweight he has a number of embarrassing fights he shouldn't have if he was as good as made out, and a relative lack of top shelf wins (to other guys considered as good as he). Same again at middleweight. His career above middleweight is really impressive though, as he did really well whilst giving up significant size advantages.

Greatest, Mmmm, thats to put him above : Chavez, Armstrong, Frazier, Ward, Briscoe, and Ace Hudkins of whom Walker said was the best most hurtful body puncher he had ever met, so there....

Maybe you are right. I don't know, I'm very high on Walker based on what I've seen from him and looking at his resume (although I probably know less about it than you). To me he's definitely an all-timer, especially P4P.

He looks absolutely outstanding on film, and he's no less than top 35. But Lachlan (the guy who I talk to the most about boxing) is very, very high on him. As in has him beating everyone, ever, at 147 (iirc that includes Robinson) and said he's one of the best he ever saw on film. I heavily disagree with both.

Burley UD. Walker didn't do well against defensive counter punchers and Burley is one of the best defensive counter punchers in history. See Britton, the gift decision against Flowers and getting outboxed against Latzo. Not to mention being clearly outboxed by Greb.
