15 rounds for the Middleweight title. IMO...I feel Fullmer is every bit on a par with the immortal "Toy Bulldog"...(at middle...not beyond) Who and why?
This is a tough one for Fullmer. Walker is the one "swarming" middleweight who I think can outbox Fullmer if he wants to and his much quicker hands and combinations should give Walker a solid advantage. Walker really shows a lot on the sparse film that is available of him.
My goodness! This is definitely tough for Fullmer...Tough for any middle in history! I'm not disparging Walker one iota...I feel the odds are with him to take it against Gene...But I think it's very close...IMO I feel Walker is the better traditional boxer/slugger....don't know what you would call Fullmer, he is not 'traditional' anything... Did Walker have superior handspeed though? Granted Fullmer is not blazing fast, but he does not look slow(?)
Walker was pretty fast on foot and hand, He could indeed out speed Fullmer or out box him if he cant out brawl Fullmer. Walker was a mini Jack Dempsey in that ring most times. He also had good power in both hands.
I didn't want my comments to come across as disparaging Fullmer. I just think Walker looks fantastic on film--one of the really impressive fighters. And I think he does have better handspeed than Fullmer. It is no shame to be judged not as good as Mickey Walker.
BIG DEE HERE= Why do you want to do this to poor Gene Fullmer, Walker was a guy who took Heavyweights apart and good ones mind you not bums. He would go into the trenches with Fullmer and do what Dick Tiger did to Gene only worse much worse as fighting Walker he`s fighting one of the strongest fighting men ever to hold the middleweight title. WALKER STOPS FULLMER BY THE 10TH RD. PROBABLY ON CUTS TKO
Walker is faster afoot ,and with his hands ,and a better puncher ,he beats Fullmer like Tiger did,imo
