Wards left to the body was a world class punch. One of my favorite punches and when I hear left hook to the body I instantly compare it to how Ward would do it.
The Lost Art of Body Punching I love when fighters go to the body and time it to perfection. Beautiful to watch!
You're absolutely right it really is a lost art...that and inside fighting. Fighters don't know how to go downstairs without leaving themselves exposed because it needs more commitment, as a result it's neglected and there's far to much head hunting going on. Body work can be crucial especially at the lower weights. I really think the reason for this is because we're running out of good teachers in boxing. Things like body work and inside fighting are skills that need a lot of good tutoring, refinement and hard work because it's so nuanced and opens up a lot of dimensions.
It really is a shame Slip. Going to the body outside of the top level seems to be just to drop someone's hands down to land the money punch. Outside of a very select few not many of them use it to hurt a fighter rather than to get the guard down. When you see a good body shot you really have to admire it these days
top video that:good Music very appropriate. Ward done the opposite of what is meant to normally happen. He would throw to the head to open a shot to the body instead of the other way round.
The most brutal left hook to the body i've ever seen to be honest, in any weight class ever, thats how much i rated it, sickening.Makes hattons look average in comparisson imo
Totally Agree Slip, You know the other problem...Judges. The amount of times a guy will work the body and not get scored for it. For all his technical flaws the last round of Froch-Taylor was fantastic finishing from Froch. Had his man heart yet worked the head and body. Obviously that wasn't great body punching but i see guys hurt someone and just head up. I loved hit guys to the body...felt better then the head. To many fighters Wanna Cash the cheque rather then put that money in the bank. When you talk about teachers Slip, i was in a gym couple years back. A pro one....the guy who took me on pads was a recently retired Pro..undefeated..3 rounds on the pads with him....not one body shot did he put there for me. All head shot.....head shot :-(
i still wonder why he was so effective with his left hook he just seemed to know where to land it all the time
Great video and I love body shots. seem to drop someone every couple of weeks with it sparring. i only seem to be able to throw a left hook tp body tho and not the right hook / uppercut to body. very few people throw bodyshots in amateurs and I can honestly say I have never been hurt with bodyshot. not cos I can take the shots, cos no one else throws them. oh well, i will continue to.....
i think part of the reason is ion amateurs people just flurry ibnstead of covering up. i love someone who shells up in front of me. straight away a hook to the body!
