During Gatti Ward II, they mentioned if Ward won they were planning a fight with Kostya Tszyu. Was there ever any serious talks about this happening. Was there anything outside of the loss to Gatti that stopped this? And who would win 2002 time frame? I think Ward might finish but I think 2002 Kostya would beat him badly. BUT HOW DO BOXING FANS FEEL?
For the sake of Ward's health probably best it didn't happen, he made his money with the Gatti fights no need to be beaten into a bloody pulp by Tszyu.
Me too...I was just wondering if the discussions grew serious or just hypothetical based upon a Ward win in the 2nd fight. I am glad it didn’t happen as Ward Gatti III was better for him and fans than a Tszyu fight would have been.
The way that De La Hoya just blew through Gatti like he was nothing, makes this matchup seem pretty clear.
Ward is better than many give him credit for, he would weather the early storm and figure KT out and start a comeback. I think Ward has the ability to absorb a great deal of punishment , and he WOULD make it a war. He will get his hits in too, and a few body shots will start slowing KT down as the fight progresses. Ward loses by Decision, but sweeps the last 4 rounds.
No. At no point was ever a serious discussion about those two overrated scrubs Ward and Gatti having a legit chance against Tszyu. Tszyu would have battered both.
