What are some interesting quotes said in the middle of a fight? -Johnson was telling Burns he was a child amongst a man's game during their championship fight. He also told him to hit him with a right to the body and a left to the chin and right after he said that he tagged him with those same punches. He was known to have conversations with those at ringside while fighting. -Ali told Liston to "get up and fight like a man" or something to that affect in their second meeting. He also told Foreman "is that all ya got?" after he punched himself out/
Johnson, holding Jeffries by the arms, and frog marching him backwards shouting out to Jim Corbett, " Where do you want him Jim?" Johnson picking Ketchel up, just as he was about to touch down and saying, "whoa there Stanley where you going?"
"They clinched and were broken again. It was then that Conn said, “Joseph, you’re in for a tough fight tonight.” Joe replied, “We’ll see.”
Tex Cobb to referee Steve Crosson during Holmes-Cobb: "You're white. Help me!" A referee to James Broad in the corner between rounds of a torrid war: "Are you all right? Do you know where you are?" Broad: "I'm in a helluva fight!" This live televised exchange has to be seen to be appreciated. Overshadowed by Tex, James was another heavyweight wise ass capable of unloading a zinger at any time. He and little Randy Gordon (who was always giving him **** about his weight issues on ESPN) could have taken their act on the nightclub circuit. After Broad came in really fat yet won a knockout on a Gordon commentated broadcast, the two of them exchanged a long, mockingly quiet "evil eye" exchange before James was handed a shitload of candy and junk food as his reward for the win by the broadcast crew. (The contrast in stature was so great that Broad could have been Gordon's ventriloquist.) Ali taunted, "Is that the best you've got?" at Foreman just after George unloaded the hardest combination punctuated by the hardest single right hand of his entire career in round five at Kinshasa. Foreman later admitted that he wanted to take a step back and sheepishly say, "Yeah." Upon review, it was indeed all downhill for George and Muhammad from this point.
One of my all time favorite hilarious quotes was when Mayorga came back to the corner in his first fight with Vernon Forrest and says, "Hey! That black guy hits hard!" Ofcourse this came after Mayorga stuck his chin out to be hit square on.
"Jim...you bet on the wrong horse" Muhammad Ali talking to Jim Brown at ringside, after the fifth round of the Rumble In The Jungle.
