Prime or heavyweight Toney? Both versions lose to mid 70s Ali. They probably lose to late 70s Ali too, but I haven't seen his last few fights due to me not enjoying watching people with Parkinson's fight.
Ali retreats , Toney 2 slow 2 catch him . This happens at least most if not all of d time , seems like a NC due 2 inactivity . If Ali tries 2 help Toney make a fight out of it , he gets his azz countered and even misses most of his poor but loaded (or enhanced by d fact that his gloves r torn even since b4 d fight began) jabs and if he tries 2 land sometihg bigger then Toney counters him with something big that Ali is still able 2 take well . This fight will always last d distance and d Don King bought referess will always give it 2 Ali .
Neither do I. Toney's never proved himself against a PRIME quality heavyweight. The Ali of the years 1970-75 would easily defeat Toney. Even the late 70s version would outbox him, imho.
Prime Toney was at least 30 pounds lighter than Ali, he would be pushed around and beaten up, Ali would beat him easily. Now a heavyweight version of Toney would be able to hold his ground better, but he is slower, so he would probly lose even worse.
In Ali threads u always find those who barely watched him fight and forgot d little that they saw . Stupid ass idiots who think Ali was tough & quick both @ d same time . tbh he was both of these things , just never @ d same time and therefore @ HW , HW Toney is both quicker and as durable as post prime Ali , while almost as quick and more durable than prime Ali . D only significant speed difference that prime Ali had over post prime Toney is footspeed but it would have only helped him in running away in circles like d ****** that he was , while causing no damage except from cuts & fatigue , which Toney won't endure due 2 his slickness and economic style .
Ali likely beats any version of Toney. I would say a hybrid version of Toney, somewhere between MW and LHW has the best chance against mid-late 70's Ali but I wouldn't bet on it. Toney would definitely win more than a couple of rounds in a 15 round contest. HW Toney was too slow and far from his best shape. His inside skills would help him against this version of Ali who wasn't as fleet footed from the 60's. Only thing, Toney doesn't move forward fast enough to get inside and hurt Ali.
