I've been back boxing after a long layoff. I'm extremely tense, static and always thinking before throwing.

Can't seem to shake it. I most probably will in due time but my back is aching and I'm sick of it. Anyone else ever had this?

Sure, especially if you've not been training much. I used to skip a lot with various ropes including a fat heavy tube rope that I collected in Thailand - ten minutes with that to finish off a workout after everything else was hell and often I had very sore back musculature. Like anything, you can push through it if you want to for masochistic reasons or otherwise do the smart thing and ease off, let yourself recover and build up from there.

If its sore muscles, people will probably say get a massage - I wouldn't in your situation, but stretching is necessary especially as you age. It sounds like your just having usual soreness from the torque-ing and upper body movement...it goes away, just like the ability to relax and punch without thinking comes back after a bit. Besta luck.

If it’s dull pain, as @ecto55 said stretching before and after workouts during cool down is the first order of business. A LOT of core stretching.

If it’s a sharp, stabbing type pain then it’s time to see a doctor.

    See a chiropractor.

I had the same and he showed me stretches that fixed it within a couple of days. Now preventative stretching keeps it at bay.
