Sibson the Midlands hardman was described by Hagler as one of the hardest
hitters he faced .Sibson another Hagler victim who's prime was
unfortunately the same time as a dominate undisputed champion.
Sibson skills were underrated and at MW he would win a mauling type brawl
    fight on pts.

Duran wasn't an all time world class at middle.

too slick, Duran walked out of the ring after 15 rounds with Hagler unmarked, Marvin was the one who looked like someone stole his lunch money

He was a world class natural middleweight who had fast hands and a terrific left hook .

Really? he had 31 ko's out of 63 fights with 8 losses and he was stopped 5 times in his career and his best win was over Minter who had a record of 39-8 at the time. He was only 5'8 so he would have only an inch in height over Duran. Hagler busted him up and stopped him in 6, and Don Lee tore up his eye and ko'ed him in 8.Duran was way to slick and Sibson didn't have the power to hurt Duran enough to bother him. Duran by unanimous decision or TKO late.

You are looking at box rec for your information, I actually watched his fights.Don't tell me Sibson didn't have the power to hurt Duran it's just silliness.

McVey's post is spot on imo. Sibson's KO %age is utterly misleading - a case of lies, damn lies & statistics. Sibson's motivation varied from fight to fight, in fact, from round to round. Stick him in a routine 10 rounder & he would sometimes struggle through it; but when motivated he could be devastating.

I've no doubt that a fully fit & motivated Sibson could hurt Duran, no doubt at all.

Whilst I don't believe the best of Sibbo would beat the Duran of Hagler vintage, I believe he could quite possibly beat the Duran of the Barkley fight. FWIW, I thought Barkley deserved the decision in that fight.

Perhaps you know, mcvey, but had Sibson ever been cut in a pro contest, prior to the Hagler bout?

I vaguely recall Sibbo talking about not having been cut since he was a child or something along those lines.

I can't remember him being cut before that.In the Hagler fight his protector broke and moved around,Im not for one moment suggesting he could beat Marvin but I think he could have given a better account of himself.Although he his primarily thought of as left hooker, like Tua , Sibson started few guys towards the ko with right hands . Rheinhardt said Sibbo's best win is a ko over Minter, what's Duran's a split dec over Barkley? Quite a few thought," The Blade," deserved the win.

And, Hagler was so on point that night. He was putting his punches together beautifully.
Sibbo had looked pretty good in his own right until around the fourth, when Hagler stepped it up a bit. The protector breaking must have made a bad situation worse.

Hagler at his peak, though... ...he was just a clinical fighting machine.

Duran was beatable at Middleweight. It was later on in his career, with his best outing there probably coming against Hagler in '83. But, Duran didn't and wouldn't have been able to emulate Hagler at Middleweight - definitely not at that stage and he was only getting older. Sibson stands a reasonable chance here.

Well I watched Sibsons career, and watched some of his fights again ,he was a solid middleweight contender Definitely not world class and as the record states had 31 ko's in 63 fights, that's 49 percent and he was stopped 5 times. He was strong but didn't hit nearly as hard as Iran Barkley or Hagler and they didn't dent Duran. Tony is a B fighter at his best. Look at Sibson's eye in the Hagler and Lee fights, Against Duran Haglers left eye was cut and swelled, Barkleys left eye was cut and swelled, and so would Tony's only he didn't hit as hard as they did .
