They should throw a middleweight contender knock out tournement. All of these fights have been rumoured, would make sense to put them together. Have Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr (WBC No.1 at LMW) vs John Duddy (WBC No.7, WBO No.14) Andy Lee (WBA No.12) vs Darren Barker (European Champion) Matthew Macklin (WBC No.8, WBA No.10, IBF No.5, WBO No.7) vs Daniel Geale (WBC No.13) Sergio Mora (Former WBC Light Middleweight Champion) vs Danny Jacobs (WBC No.5, WBA No.6, WBO No.6) The winner would have 3 solid wins on his record, and be ready for any of the champions.
BigBone suggested yesterday a MW Super 6 with Golovkin, Jacobs, Guerrero, Lemieux, N'Dam N'Jikam and Macklin.
You definitely forgot the amazing Dimitry Pirog to include in any of the tournaments. I also doubt that one will be seen in the near future, but it would make sense since the champions are neither in a lay off (Sturm) or probably moving down to lightmiddle (Martinez) or are protected in Germany (Sylvester).
It's a lot more realistic than another super six imo. It would be much shorter and would be easier to keep interest in. We need to see more of these type contests but unfortunately promoters don't seem too sold on them. You could add Pirog, N'Jikam or Lemieux into the mix should any of those not wish to participate. Really tough to call a winner too, lots of good style clashes there, could be a few surprises.:thumbsup
From my point of view Chavez Jr. and Duddy don't belong in the tournament. Instead Golovkin, Pirog, N'Jikam and Lemieux are a must.
Thats fair enough, the are the two weakest there, but I think the reason he chose exactly those fighters are because those fights are already made or close to being made. Golovkin and Mundine/N'Jikam is coming up soon. Team Lemieux may not want to step him up that drastically and soon in his career too.
You are right the fight between Cavez and Duddy seems to be set for the 26 June. Golovkin vs Mundine won't take place. Mundine didn't sign the contract, he is likely to earn more $$ in Downunder. Golovkin was an excellent amateur beating Dirrell, Bute (by KO), Korobov and other outstanding fighters. As a pro he looks a bit wild, swinging his punches, but so far has knockout 15 of his 18 opponents. Time to step it up, after his quarrel with Universum is settled. Fightnews also announced that Team N'Jikam wasn't contacted by Team Golovkin. So this fight seems also not likely to happen soon. Time to wait for us fans... Btw, I just checked boxrec and according to the latest update, Kelly Pavlik has been taken out of the list of MWs. So the rumours seem to be proven right. He'll compete at SMW. Good luck to Kelly, but I don't give him much of a chance there.
