In the middleweight division, we have several top level fighters who are all after a piece of the GGG/Canelo pie and are just waiting around to feed on the scraps those guys leave them. It would be great if any of these guys fight each other and stake a stronger claim for themselves, but I don’t see it happening soon. Saunders has the WBO belt. Jacobs is fighting for a WBA final eliminator. Charlo has the WBC ‘interim’ belt Derevyanchenko has been made mandatory for the IBF GGG cannot fight all of them, and indeed may fight none of them next since GGG/Canelo may happen again in September. If GGG beats Canelo, I can see him trying to unify with Saunders or perhaps defend against one of the others, but not all of them and he may retire soon since he is now 36. The worse situation is if Canelo wins, because I don’t see Canelo going anywhere near these guys. I fully expect Canelo to fight the likes of O’Sullivan, and probably go back to enforcing catchweights on his opponents. Canelo doesn’t care about holding multiple belts, if he wins the WBC he will probably keep that since they are back to being best buds and are loath to enforce a mandatory. I rate all these contenders, but it is incredibly frustrating that when the division is close to unification, it will be split up again. None of them seem to want to face each other and stake a stronger claim, since they are all targeting separate pieces of the pie. Such is boxing I guess…thoughts?
exactly the top MW should fight each other. Fights like the Jacobs vs Sulecki tonight is what MW needs The Saunders vs Murray fight on the otherside is a bit of a disappointment Murray had already enough chances. It's easy to predict an unspectacular Saunders UD win Murata, Charlo, Jacobs, Saunders, Andrade, Derevyanschenko and Lemieux should fight each other
Golovkin, Canelo, Jacobs, Saunders, Murata, Charlo, Derev... I just want to see match ups between these guys, in any combination really. Hope we get more than just one or two but I won't hold my breath.
