I'm frankly surprised at the poll. In my mind, there's no way in hell Tiger outpoints Hopkins. He might knock him out, but outhustle him down the stretch? Nah.

 

Easy fight for Hopkins. Bad style matchup for Richard.

 

I almost always pick who I see as the better boxer in these matchups, and that is Hopkins by a long way. I can see Tiger Landing, but not with anything extremely effective because Bernard's ring IQ was off the charts.

 

Tiger had a great chin and great power. His footage sort of blurs together in my memory now but I think it was the Fernandez fight that underlines just how much of a handful he was to anybody who came with the idea of exchanging with him. Fernandez was faster and clearly the better boxer, and it was obvious that he also had a good punch. Yet it took something like six rounds for Tiger to bust him up and turn him into a wreck. Hopkins was not a completely negative fighter in the mould of Mayweather, and he could have his macho moments too. If Tiger gets the better of some exchanges and gets Hopkins into trouble, I think he could knock him out. Let's not forget how good an account Tiger gave of himself against Foster at light heavy as an old man. Hopkins' size advantage was not that big, and mostly in height.
