Middleweight Fantasy King of the Hill 4/12- Hopkins vs Nunn

Nunn UD. Hopkins never was a puncher at 160 neither can he outbox Nunn. Also Nunn had an excellent chin, only stopped once in a 60 fights career that spanned over 3 weight classes.

 

On pedigree, you'd have to pick Hopkins. But Nunn would be a very live dog, and he could win this on workrate and firepower. Nunn had an iffy gas tank and maybe a question mark over his chin late. But I don't think Hopkins is the guy to exploit this. 50-50 for me.

 

I'm taking the southpaw killer AKA Bhop. He can't outbox Nunn but at 160 he was a grinder and would likely rough Nunn up on the inside. He was suffocating fighter and excelled at taking away an opponents strength.

 

Michael Nunn Is A classic example of peak being different than prime. Peak Michael Nunn was almost untouchable. He was about as slick as they come, but still had a very good offense. Prime Michael Nunn was an excellent fighter, but a little inconsistent. Hopkins on the other hand was very consistent. If you weren’t at your best Hopkins, who was gonna take advantage of you and find a way to win.

For fantasy matchups, I always think of it as peak versus peak with both boxers at their very best. I voted for Nunn to win this by decision, but it would not take much slippage from him for Hopkins to win the fight.

 

This gives me strong Hopkins vs Dawson vibes tbh

 

50-50 this one, I picked Hopkins to pull out a possibly controversial decision

 

Hopkins struggled against the fastest fighters he faced, see RJJ, Taylor, Calzaghe Dawson but he was great and experienced against southpaws, see Tarver, Winky Wright, Holmes, Allen, Vanderpool. John David Jackson. His angles were usually great against them.

I favour Peak Nunn to beat him to the punch too often though.

 

I favor Nunn. Hopkins never liked busy opponents. And although Nunn could never stop Hopkins in his tracks, he would do more than enough despite throwing what some would call pitty-pat punches. Hopkins would be put in a different role where he would have to chase down his opponent, which could make this interesting. But again, I would favor Nunn by decision both at their peaks.

 

I'll take the prison forged guy who had a discipline impervious to any force over the amateur dandy who had a side eye on the nose candy.
