Was checking out Boxing Prospects website and found out he recently put up a Middleweight prospects piece (http://www.boxingprospects.info/16/post/2013/02/middleweight-prospects.html) some interesting names, though maybe it's just me or are the prospects in the division a bit...weak? Take out Zurdo and El Principe and you're left with some pretty average looking guys.
BJS, average? :think He's already British/Commonwealth champ and is a ways off from reaching his ceiling IMO. He'll pick up a Euro belt and contend at least for a world title before it's all said and done. Granted he didn't impress against Blackwell, but it can be chalked up to an off-night after looking bang tidy in shutting out Pryce and destroying Fletcher.
Didn't impress against Blackwell or Boulden for me. Beating Pryce is nothing special because, like with Hall, he's a blown up fighter who shouldn't be fighting at Middleweight. That's not to suggest there isn't a lot of promise there but he's certainly not blowing my mind, it's just a shame he's not being pushed upwards.
He didn't just beat him, though. He thoroughly outclassed him, and Pryce though well-used and outsized was game enough on the night.
Nope. He sports a nice right hand, but by and large gets through on athleticism like so many youngsters. Lots of bad habits defensively, too.
Daniel Jacobs is actually still pretty young. Hopefully he can make a string comeback. The fight against Lyell will tell a lot
He's 26 so yeah pretty young. Would you not consider him.a contender as opposed to a prospect considering he's fought in a world title fight?
True... Agreed; a prospect is typically someone yet to really step up. We've already seen what happens when Danny steps up. (although it may be attributable to a bad styles match-up, or death in the family, etc.)
I only tend to include guys who are 25 or under, so thats part of the reason why Jacobs wasn't included. Writing that made me wonder why Korobov was such a bust.
Yeah, it's crazy. From his amateur career (beat everyone under the sun, from Ismayl Sillakh to Sergey Kovalev...) through his first couple of years as pro he looked to have enormous potential. Then in mid-2011 the wheels came off... A few uninspired performances, lots of inactivity...
Andrade and the Charlos are better than many of these imo. I've seen several Zurdo fights on tv, he hasn't impressed.
What, Boo Boo Andrade? :huh I'm from New England and fully expect him to go bust at the upper echelon. A KO waiting to happen. Now, the Charlo brothers... :deal
All three are LIGHT Middleweights. Jermall Charlo hasn't faced anyone of note so it's impossible to really put him up there even if he were fighting in the right division. Talking of Andrade, what happened to his supposed fight with Maciel? That would have been a great fight and one I think Maciel would have won.
