    As a comparison:

I guess the Fitzsimmons supporters haven't made their vote yet. I'm sure Fitzsimmons will begin to get more votes.

He's one. I do think that most of the people who picked Fitzsimmons to beat Robinson will stick with their man in this match-up as well.

Fitzsimmons will probably win this poll by coming on in the later rounds after a good start by Charley Burley.

so what you are saying is because i picked fitzsimmons over robinson i have to pick fitzsimmons over everybody else in the tournament .
you have your views and i have mine, we dont have to agree and to be honest life would be pretty boring if everybody just agreed all the time
and tournaments like these would not happen

Why the hell not? The same arguments apply in Fitz's favor against anyone else the same way they applied against Robinson, do they not? He has a big punch, and apparently all you need to beat the GOAT is a puncher's chance. So why not the same logic with every other fighter he's up against?

Another idiotic thread. Fitzsimmons melts Burley via looking though his pupils and overheating his liver after chugging down a litre of 'Fitzy Juice'.

It is ironic that you make an issue of Fitzsimmons "prehistoric technique" here when Burley fought from a 1920s stance and rarely ever threw combinations.

I think that the "advances in technique" argument carried much more weight in the Robinson match up than this one.

So far this tournament has been nothing if not surprising. Robinson and Hopkins are out and Tiger Flowers is a virtual lock to move forward to the semi finals.

Yeah, but Fitz had that punch, didn't he? You really think Burley is going to avoid every single big punch thrown over 15 rounds? That sounds mighty illogical based on what was said and agreed on in the other thread. Burley has been dropped and hurt multiple times before, by lesser punchers than Fitz according to the arguments you guys have been making. Therefore it's only logical to assume that Fitz would indeed land the big bomb at some point and likely put Burley on his ass. It's also worth nothing that pretty much every bout Burley hit the deck in he ended up losing, even if he was never stopped. Then again neither was Robinson, but look what happened in that first round.

I know how highly you rate Fitz's resume as well, so it's not like you don't rate him.

I'm glad someone else sees the clear gulf in ability.

However, I agree, Fitz could take out Kid Dynamite himself, he'd have no problems landing the one big punch on Burley. Sometime around the 2nd or 3rd round probably, once Burley's started doing all his 'modern silliness' probably.

Did you know that pre-1900 fighters would eat steaks between rounds rather than sip water. And do you know sometimes one round would last a week? And these were 52 round fights?!?!?! Fighting for a whole year, and always a No Contest. Unbelievable stuff.

on the other hand burely put moore down four times in winning a decision over moore .and also stopped a man who outweighed him by 70lbs in six rounds turner`s face was so red and beaten the ring described it as a red piece of meat. like i said it is all about opinions to be honest i thought i would be in the minority picking fitzsimmons over robinson by quite some way

burley was not that modern he did not really throw combonations but was a very cagey fighter and deliberate puncher usually in single shots. his trainer was hiawatha grey who was around the same time as jack johnson
    and stanley ketchel
