Lamotta did face guys as big as Nard..He was a lightheavyweight himself essentially. Top 175 contender Bob Murphy (whom Im pretty sure held a portion of the title at some point, at least an equivalent to holding one of the ABC titles today), future heavyweight contender Bob Satterfield, light heavy contender Billy Fox..off the top of my head.

This would be an excellent fight...If Antwon Echols can take Nard out of his game then Lamotta is going to bring the ruckus.
Bernard has put on some excellent performances in his career but none against someone as bull strong, iron chinned and wiley as Lamotta.

    That being said....

Hopkins just has to much in his bag of tricks..to skilled, tough and versatile. He wins this more often then he loses this but I wouldnt rule out Jake bagging a fight in a series.

I think Bernard would have to fight Lamotta 20 times before he could dream of forcing a stoppage...He wins this one clear on points..10-5 or 8-4 in his era.

One thing to keep in mind here and which has been overlooked so far is that Hopkins was more than willing to engage his foes in close quarters in his younger days, and that is where Jake excelled, on the inside that is. Should Hopkins try to meet the Brons Bull head-on I cannot see any other result but a win for Jake, you ain`t going to outbull the bull so to speak and Hopkins would be well served to box and clinch whenever jake gets inside on him.

However Jake wasn`t one to let himself get tied up without trying to maul and fight his way out of a clinch, Hops would pay a price anytime they got in close quarters for sure. Not to say he wouldn`t have his moments, but over the long haul that body attack of Jake`s is gonna take its toll and this is where he will take over down the stretch I feel.

As for PP there was no controversy over the Williams bout, Holman started of well boxing but age and Jake`s relentless pressure and body attack slowed him down to a crawl over the second half of the fight and thus he lost the decision, most observers readily agreed that Jake won the bout clearly.

As for the Marshall bout Jake was coming on very strong in the last three rounds and had Marshall hanging on for dear life at the end, so it wasn`t a complete whitewash in Marshall`s favour as you imply. Anyway back to the Hopkins fight Jake should win this, but Hopkins will make him work for it all night long.

    LaMotta SD15 Hopkins

lamotta isn't loseing to a guy who loses to a man who refuses to fight in the ring "taylor " at ANY point in his career .. .

    your a racist .. a loser and a git ... now shut the **** up ..

You're such an ignorant ****wit, first off he had 20 MW title fights, Jones maybe the best at the weight ever, he was 39, THIRTY ****ING NINE when he faced Taylor and still arguably won twice. Lamotta only went 1-6 against the best 2 MWs he faced in RObinson and Marshall (1 being a WW for most of their fights). He never beat the best of his era, never faced many of the best MWs like Burley, Charles, Moore, Booker etc etc

Whats racist about picking a great blk fighter over a B Class minor champ like Lamotta, who avoided many of the best MWs of his day and got lucky with Cerdan's shoulder injury, Lamotta mainly picked on smaller men too for that matter.

I suppose I'm a racist for rating blk fighters like Duran, Sanchez, Barrera so highly too :patsch

I'll go for Hopkins wiley old school skills to offset LaMotta's strength, will and energy via split decision.

the difference between lamotta and hopkins is .. lamotta had to fight for 4 years whooping the whole roost of fighters before he got his shot ... hopkins got away with being able to hold an abc title for several years beating the all time legends in simon brown .. glen johnson .. and various other great great and i do mean GREAT legends ..

lamotta gave the all time great legend 5 or 6 time middle weight champ sugar ray robinson HELL in there fights ... hopkins lost to roy jones jr .. who did hopkins fight that was any where near as good as sugar ray robinson? .. roy jones jr and he lost! .. don't give me that green **** he had just as many if not more fights as roy ...

dude nobody takes what you write seriously .. everybody knows about your agenda and you are hardly a fair shake kinda person

Yes Lamotta gave Robinson 6 tough fights BUT Robinson was always the smaller man, he was even a f*cking light welterweight when they were first squaring off. Thats somewhat similar to Hopkins struggling with Mayweather or Mosley, the size difference was that much. If Lamotta was great he would have won against such a smaller man.

BTW Lamotta straight up ducked Charles Burley saying 'why fight Burley when I can fight Zivic', Zivic lost and got a gift against Burley

The only reasoning for Lamotta winning is Lamotta throws more punches, 44yo Hopkins schooled Pavlik who throws more leather than Lamotta and hits harder than Jake, has a better jab, rangier. Idiocy, but few people in these forums have stepped between the ropes or know anything about the mechanics of boxing, so its no suprise

Hopkins has been fighting at the top level from 1993 even into 2010 when he'll fight, Hopkins was ducked for years himself. However his resume and wins and performances are far better than Lamottas

Ok so if Hagler fought Arguello he wouldn't have a size advantage because hes shorter? I guess Tyson wouldn't have a size advantage over Tommy Hearns either.

Everyones jumping on Mayweather for fighting Marquez but he'll only have a few pounds on JMM, Robinson gave up 17lbs against Lamotta!!!!

The fight you are thinking of is the Fullmer fight, which was far later when Robinson grew into a solid 160lb middleweight, the time when Lamotta first faced him he was 143lb Welter and SRR should have been Lightweight champion as he beat the champ at a catchweight and could have made 135lb if he was allowed his shot at the title

You are right when Lamotta faced him he wasn't a small middleweight, he was a small welterweight, and not like Tito/Delahoya who had both grown into being 155lb+ men
