I'll support the fairytale and pick Burley by split, via McGrain's reasoning.

i can't see either man being KO'd right off the bat. Burley has been described as an early version of roy jones and from the film i've seen of him, it's not the worst analogy.

burley from descriptions could be busier and more combination based than film makes him appear, in which he is a patient counter puncher waiting to land that heavy right and usually with great accuracy.

still i see a prime hagler having the movement to work his way in, the combination punching to outland burley and the durability to take his shots. it's close and burley has more than his share of moments, stunning hagler repeatedly but I see a close, but clear workmanlike decision for hagler

I think Burley would win by a stoppage on cuts in round 9.
