Middleweight Tournament - Semi Final Notice and Quarters Round-Up

Tiger Flowers UD15 Jake Lamotta (votes 6-1)

Lamotta exerts alot of pressure on the slick Flowers. However Tigers slick movement and skills off set the pressure and let him land his own counters. A marvelous boxing display here.

Carlos Monzon UD15 Roy Jones Jr (votes 13-6)

Roy Jones gets off to a sparkling start almost landing at will using his speed to a great advanatge landing combos on Carlos then getting out of range. The audeince think there seeing the 'King' on his way to a beating. In the 6th round Monzon starts to time Roy better and lands some great 1-2s to take the round and slowly Monzon starts to take a grip of the contest. Monzon really turns it up late and drops Roy and has him in trouble but Roy is saved by the bell and manages to see out the remaining rounds.

Marvin Hagler UD15 Harry Greb (votes 9-7)

What a war this one was. Hagler had the cleaner shots and seemed to do mroe damage but Greb had the higher workrate. Both fighters were cut early as Greb set a frentic pace that Hagler just managed to keep up with. As the pace slowed Haglers cleaner boxing started to take over to win the fight. Although it was a UD some people felt Greb nicked it but they didnt complain too much.

Charley Burley UD15 Robert Fitzsimmons (votes 9-4)

The crowd were stunned the seemingly invincible Fitz was shown to be a 'primitive boxer' by the supreme boxer Burley. (Howver some feel Burley has a simlar style to Fitz) Burley the whole night used his speed to beat the once favrouite in the tournament to the punch and played it safe. In the 8th round Fitz connected with a big right that sent Burley down bt Burley rose form it and played it even more cautious, he did what Ray Robinson couldnt do.
