Yeah, excellent insight regarding the skills of Monzon. He mastered pace and distance, both creating traps for his opponents and largely keeping away from their strengths. Boxing is so much more than a composite of punches thrown. It's the depth of understanding in putting those punches together in order to create a whole offense.

I assumed you had better reasons for favouring "King Carlos" other than Hopkins' own admission. Now I'm merely hoping. And we all know what journalists are like.

I do. I briefly explained my reasoning, you disagreed on the basis that Monzon has a "pawing jab" and "leaky defense". I could make inane counter statements about Hopkins, but then it would just devolve into a useless debate. I disagree with your assessment of Monzon, and therefore I will obviously disagree with your assessment of a matchup between he and Hopkins.

Monzon. Though when the tourney was going on I had Burley as my pick to win.

How are you even going to have a middleweight converstaion without mentioning Greb and Robinson? Anyway, I say Greb.

The 3 guys that voted for Hopkins should immediately be banned from 'Classic' forum for blatantly not know what the **** they are talking about !! Cerdan and Ketchel were far better than Hopkins !!

Even listing Hopkins in the poll options is a total insult ..

On further consideration, I'd say Fitzsimmons.

    i voted hagler.
robinson lost to lamotta , i know he beat him the rest of the times , which leaves him much superior to lamotta h2h , but if lamotta could do it once , hagler will do more than once , which , i believe will be enough for him to win most of their encounters.
robinson was a close 1:1 with carmen basilio , a former welterweight himself and a midget nonetheless , and had his fair share of losses to lesser fighters than hagler , just imagine hagler instead of them.
hagler was good at fighting former lower weight fighters such as duran , hearns , mugabi and leonard.

and for those whom think greb , remember langford.
i also doubt how jones could do against such a good pressure fighter like hagler.
pazienza made him look beatable , just imagine a younger pazienza and at 160 instead of 168 , and then imagine a prime hagler instead of that pazienza.
jones avoided any real threat until late in his career when he actually became so much more threatened , that it became too hard for him to avoid every threat.
however leonard made hagler look beatable , maybe he even deserved that win.

so it is either hagler or langford.
hopkins belongs to WWF , he should get disqualified in those encounters , or else he turns it to a prison fight.
