To be fair, Gonzalez was far better than I expected and put up a tremendous fight buoyed by the crowd. I actually had it even at the time of the stoppage but yeah, they probably had it 4-2 or 5-1 with a knockdown too, so Moloney would’ve been up against it. Really an impressive thing to get the knockout like this when you know it’s probably the only way to absolutely ensure you win

It was a lot of fun, yeah, Gonzalez had some really good moments and was legitimately in the fight going into the 8th. Maloney did well to keep his resolve both in the face of a bad KD call (though the original angle did make it appear as though Gonzalez landed a short counter right) and in the face of Gonzalez's increasingly effective attack as the rounds went on.

Very good win by Andrew Moloney. Looked the better fighter to me all the way but I was concerned he might be distracted by the knockdown ruling. In the end, I think it was a smart move by both he & his corner not to show any disrespect towards the ref about that. It would have been a bad look if they had & I'm glad they didn't. They got their just deserts in the end.

I thought the female ref was good apart from the atrocious knockdown call. I feel disappointed for her b/c if that hadn't occurred, she might have found herself in line for some international appointments. It was a really bad call though so I suspect now she's not. There was no punch so there was no basis for getting that wrong. Pity.

She looked a little surprised when he went down like a bag of potatoes.

    That wasn't in the script.

Eh...On the initial angle it looked like Maloney might have run into a short counter right. It turned out to be a bad call, but I think based on the way it looked, it's understandable why Arroyo thought a KD might have occurred.

Still, she didn't deduct any points from Maloney when Gonzahtlez was complaining about low blows, and she made the right call in stopping the fight. Honestly, I've seen far worse officiating jobs from more lauded refs.

Watching the stream live I couldn't tell if there was a punch or not. But our angle was different to that of the ref.

On the replay, there wasn't a hint of a punch.

If someone slips & they happen to get clipped with a glancing blow, I don't have a problem with a ref calling knockdown.

That wasn't the case here though.

I thought she was good apart from that. She certainly took her time to wave it off but that could be justified on the basis that she wanted to adequately assess the fighter before making the call. I didn't see a basis for ruling knockdown when there wasn't a punch though.

I think she was just out of position and thought Gonzalez might have clipped Maloney on the way in.

But it definitely should have been called a slip, yeah.
