Bad comeback opponent. This is a fight that Cotto should win but I have a feeling he won't.

Like what many others have mentioned it depends how much Cotto has left I suppose.

His jab and mix of boxing and pressure-fighting should see him through. I don't think Rodriguez is mobile enough to stay out of range and pick Cotto apart and I'm not sure he will handle the inside the way even a shopworn Miguel can.

My pick is for Cotto to shed some rust by methodically grinding out a tough but ultimately pretty comfortable points decision. Not the most exciting prediction, but I just can't see anything else happening in my mind's eye.

Cotto 7/5 or 8/4 in rounds.

This is one of those fights that will help us understand just how far gone Cotto is. I mean, it isn't exactly black and white, as Cotto is fighting in a weight class which he really doesn't belong in, but I still feel as though Cotto should be way too much for Rodriguez. That being said, I am not sure how much Cotto has left.

Sort of reminds me of the Kelson Pinto fight although Kelson came in assuming he had an easy win since he beat Cotto in the amateurs.

His focus on the body shots broke him down as I suspect the same with Rodriguez.
Rodriguez will put on a valiant effort but soon realize he is in the big league ring!!!

Rodriguez knows about Cotto's strengths. I think he even said at the presser he is a Cotto fan. I have to imagine he plans to box at range and not get sawed in half by those left hooks...no matter how much tough talk there was about meeting in the middle of the ring and going to war.

He does have those brawling instincts but he also isn't stupid and must recognize what an opportunity this is for him, and that playing into Cotto's hands would spoil that opportunity.

IB, if you remember that fight with Freddy Hernandez, it was on FNF and the first time they used instant replay in a boxing match. They looked and saw the cut was caused by a punch

Ah, right. So it was a legit TKO...but not quite as spectacularly impressive a stoppage of El Riel as Berto knocking him cold in a blitzkrieg. :yep

I've never really liked Cotto at 154 and would actually favor a few B-level 154lb guys against Cotto (whether Delvin is one of those guys, at this point I remain undecided). He's just very small at the weight, and up until Floyd/Trout had been matched carefully (Foreman, Mayorga, Margarito).

I haven't made up my mind yet, but Delvin is a live dog here, and I might be leaning towards him.

This will be another certain win for Cotto as long as he is still standing at the end. You can take that to the bank

Err Do you think he was matched carefully against Tony Margarito???? LOL Tony beat his ass bad & was getting set to do it again till that crooked doc jumped in and stopped the fight. He stopped the fight to save Cotto the embarrassment of quitting AGAIN!!!1 not to save Tony's eye. Oh & Btw Cotto couldn't even stop a one legged Yuri Foreman :patsch Not even after Mercante wouldn't let Foreman's corner stop the fight & made him fight on :hi:

Yes, I do think he was matched carefully against Margarito. If Hatton had come back against Malignaggi wouldn't you think that was shrewd matchmaking on Malignaggi's part?

It's a similar situation with Margarito, sure he beat up Cotto way back in 2008, but then he got absolutely demolished in savage fashion by Shane Mosley and then had his eye ruined by Pacquiao. So yes, when the rematch was made, I felt Cotto would win comfortably, and he did.

I still say at 154 Cotto is still a bit of an unknown commodity. We know his skills are good enough to compensate for his lack of size against the likes of Foreman, Margarito, and Mayorga...but that isn't saying a whole lot in my opinion, and there are guys who aren't A-level that I'd favor over Cotto (Angulo for instance).
