This is one of my favorite fights from El Maestro who gives a great all-round performance against a determined Furesawa. Canto shows that he wasn’t just a purely defensive fighter but also a skillful offensive fighter, showing his infighting skills, counterpunching, body attacks and his “Mexican style” side by going to war even when being pressured or hurt. Definitely worth a watch for the purists. This content is protected
Yeah, Furesawa is game, but by I think the ninth (?) he is in fear of the left hand of the great man. More and more reluctant to throw. This is a good a performance as was ever filmed at the weight.
There was a video of Canto’s TKO victory over Jiro Takada that was on YT years ago but has since been removed for awhile. In that fight he also showed some great offense even though he lacked power. That was one of the only fights filmed that showed Canto stopping someone. I only wish someone would reupload that fight.
He landed his jab whenever he wanted, too. It's the best I've ever seen Canto look on film, but I wouldn't call it even his own best performance, as Furesawa was only borderline world level. Even in Japan he wasn't rated that highly, getting this shot by virtue of a true shock KO over Shoji Oguma. Somehow he landed another world title shot immediately after this and got slaughtered by Guty Espadas.
That was awesome but my fav Canto fight is still him picking apart the much bigger and very dangerous Antonio Avelar.
