Miguel Cotto- amount of love in PR and around the world

Does anyone know the amount of love and respect Cotto gets in Puerto Rico and everywhere else? I've heard from many people that claim to know him and of him in PR and say he drinks like a horse and is pretty wild out there. That's what they say. I obviously don't know the guy. I know he draws well in New York and there's a large boricua population in NY too, but not real sure if Miguel Cotto the fighter is loved or the Puerto Rican fighter, regardless of his name, is the reason for attraction. He's obviously not as outgoing to the public as Tito Trinidad which many conservative people like, but I'm sure that's why some people don't like him. Being unbiased, he does have a great resume, but what is the story with him? How much respect does he get and how much respect does he deserve? Does Emmanuel Steward really recharge him into "elite" status again?

Que hay Triguenito? I don't know about PR, though I have heard Boricuas say he's kind os stuck up. Maybe it's just that he's more reserve than other fighters from La Isla. I would say he does get respect throughout the world. He's got heart, and has an entertaining style. I like Cotto, but do feel he's seen his best days. I don't know what Steward can do to recharge his career but we'll see against Mayorga, who apperantly is going to be his next opponent.

Personaly I would like to see a rematch against Margarito, being they both got destroted by Pac and to clear the air about Margo being loaded in their fight.

K lo k Atritionist? I heard the same about him being stuck up too. He def is a warrior and doesn't do much to get people to like him or follow him. At the same time, it's his career. I don't think Arum has done much to protect him by never saying anything in his defense after the handwrapping scandal after the Margarito loss and the Manny ped dumped. If it was me, I think I'd feel a bit like my promoter didn't care much for me and allowed me to sacrifice my career so they can keep building theirs. Granted these guys make much more money than me, maybe if I had a million dollar check, I may not care how I'm treated.

Not only that but remember when Cotto said to team Pac, that he would fight at their catchweight of 145. but he wasn't going to put his belt on the line being he won the belt at a legit weight of 147. Freddy Roach threw a fit and eventualy Arum had to pressure Cotto to follow suit.

I guess Arum returned the favor and gave Cotto fist dibs at Yuri Formans title, feeling guilty maybe.

I know that Puerto Rican-Americans love him. Cotto fans are some of the only real boxing fans we have around my may.

There's nothing wrong with not going around shouting and talking nonsense.

I mean I like trash as much as the next guy, hypes up the sport and grabs attention, but its refreshing when someone like Cotto just does it in the ring.

I personally love the guy, in a non-literal, the way a man loves his dog kind of way.

Boxer's are looked up on here in Puerto Rico. Many people seem to lose respect when they see the island's icon drunk and hooking up with different women. But he really is admired for what he's done in the ring and because he's willing to fight the best. I personally don't care much for what his life style is outside the ring, but some people can't see him the same way.

hes not admired has much as tito in pr but hes respected none the less, he does well from him self owns a casino has a couple of gas stations started cotto promotions, he is more conservative he keeps to himself and is about his family. he is not very loud or outspoken and hes been this way since the beginning, outside of pr i can tell u that many people know him just by looking at his ratings. besides pac and mayweather cotto is the biggest draw in the US and by the looks of it on eastsideboxing he is definitely the most respected boxer around right now. hardcore cotto fans as myself are always wishing the best for him hoping he gets back on top to where he was right before the margarito fight, will we ever see that again, 2011 should answer that.

:think why do you think JuanMa never really had a problem steppin' out of Tito's shadow?

Well, One can say because Tito pretty much supported him. Then the better question would be... Why did Tito support JuanMa and not Cotto?

I had heard Tito always praise JuanMa and even say he would be the next Puerto Rican star, but was always low key when asked about his opinions on Cotto.
